What is forgiveness? Wikipedia says: Forgiveness is the intentional and voluntary process by which a victim undergoes a change in feelings and attitude regarding an offense, lets go of negative emotions such as revenge, with an increased ability to wish the offender well.[1][2][3] Forgiveness is different from condoning (failing to see the action as wrong and in need of forgiveness), excusing (not holding the offender as responsible for the action), pardoning (granted by a representative of society, such as a judge), forgetting (removing awareness of the offence from consciousness), and reconciliation (restoration of a relationship).[1]
I believe it is a peaceful understanding that your health and happiness are more important than a painful event or the person that inflicted it. It is a letting go and a knowing that you no longer need to keep being punished by the past. That you deserve better than those memories. It comes from loving and approving of yourself.
Peaceful Understanding……

Find #PEACE in #ART ………………………………………………………Peaceful Understanding Painting by Sharon Cummings
Wonderful blog post and beautiful image Sharon!
Thank you Jim!
Sharon, marvelous art and compelling words to compliment it…
Thank you so much!
You’re very welcome, Sharon…
Forgiveness is perhaps, as I said somewhere once and as others have said too, the highest act of genuine love – as much for self as for the other. You’ve expressed this so beautifully – and though I’ve tried in poem after poem, I could never quite make the distinctions you make here. Fabulous art to go with this beautiful post. Shared.
Thanks Lianne…I thought about writing a poem…but decided to just say what I felt. 🙂 Thanks as always for stopping by my blog.

The image speaks of the peaceful understanding you write about. Forgiveness can be a long process. For me, the realization that I had finally arrived was when my thoughts no longer revolved around past wrongs. A sense of true inner peace and a renewed sense of wholeness-that defines forgiveness for me as well.
Definitely a long process for me as well for certain things. Some I forgive easily. Like I find that I can forgive my daughter and husband quickly. I believe the childhood traumas are the most difficult. But I am living proof it can be done. Even the most heinous of offenses have been forgiven and I am at peace with myself and my past. Thank you for stopping by….
Well, it certainly shows in your art. So astounding!
