Everyone who knows me well, is aware of my spirituality but lack of religion. Religion fascinates me and I really enjoy taking photographs of religious symbolism. I also delight in painting and creating all things spiritual sometimes combining visual imagery from various beliefs. In my studies over the years, I have found that all of the major religions have a dark side and each also has light and joy in their teachings. I was raised in a Christian home where abuse was the norm including much of it within the Church. I have seen the seedy side for sure. But Easter is meant to be a celebration that expresses life and renewal! It has both both Pagan and Christian roots. Whatever your leanings, it is a day to look around you and breath in the goodness of this earth. To be thankful for the life that you are living. Whether it is brunch with good friends, a walk on the beach or a family gathering with food and festivities…….It’s Spring! Happy Easter!

Well said! I, too, practice Spirituality with lack of religion. As well, a passion is finding and photographing little old white clapboard churches. They inspire my creative and give off a certain Peace. Your image reminds me of one I shot long, long ago at the Dove of the Desert in Tucson….need to find those photographs! Long ago, well before my digital self! But I digress…lovely post! Happy Easter, Happy Spring!
Blessings to you too Debi! This is the steeple of the Episcopal church just right around the corner from us….
Very pretty! I wish we had blue skies like that here but alas, grey…grey…grey! Have a fabulous day!
You too Debi!

Happy Easter Sharon!
You too my friend!
Happy Easter
Thank you…you too!
Blessings Sharon… I am curious if you’ve ever blogged about the image in your gravatar.

Hi Eric…I’ve never blogged about it but have been asked many times. It was just a spontaneous shot taken by my husband in our front yard. We have a beautiful hibiscus bush right outside my studio window….I just grabbed one off and put in my mouth to make him laugh…He snapped a shot. We both liked it so I use it as my avatar. 🙂
Thank you. It had me wondering if there was a silly story or a heart warming one or what it would be.

Happy Easter! “Life and renewal.” Well put!
You too Sarah!
Very good blog. I feel much the same as you. I’ve read about many religions. I’ve taken what I liked, the joy and love and light, and left the rest. Happy Easter and a blessed renewal of spirit to you.
Thank you Kerry…I am glad you found a good spirit place.:)
Agree with everything You’ve said here, beautifully written!
Thank you Jim!
I think more and more people claim a spirituality but non-affiliation with any given “religion” in part because so much harm has been done in the name of religion. To be spiritual instead is to recognize our common bonds without the self-righteousness of doctrine. Love this post Sharon – Happy Easter to you!! And Happy Spring.
I believe you are right Lianne…Happy Easter to you too!
Too many of the holidays we “celebrate” are tarnished” by the “have tos” and other forms of straight-jacket traditions. I share your sentiment about celebrating the goodness of the earth for sure.
You are so right!
