Don’t be afraid. It’s only color. I have to smile really big whenever I sell one of my bold mega colorful paintings. It lets me know that someone out there has the assertiveness to go with a piece that yells from the walls, “Look at me!!!” It is even more satisfying when it is an abstract. Abstracts make most people uncomfortable. Some will say that they just do not understand abstract art. There is good news! You do not have to. You just have to like it and have the courage to allow yourself to enjoy it. I do not understand how an opal is formed, but I know it’s beautiful. I do not understand how a beetle has such iridescence in it’s shell, but I know it is stunning. I do not understand how the human eye has all of those amazing patterns, but enjoy looking at them. A lot of people like familiarity and stick to representational artwork. But what so many do not realize is that the world has far more abstract imagery. It just takes a closer look. Have no fear!

It seems that their is something growing expanding and at the same time its exploded or formed into it’s own shape. Universe before / after. and still forming growing.

This painting is stunning, Sharon! I actually think I prefer abstract art because it just “is” and has its own very unique personality 🙂 🙂 Thank you for sharing your beautiful work with us here on WP! 🙂 Love, Meliza x

Thank you Meliza! While I do create representational work, I also prefer abstract. Especially when creating. It is so forgiving…just a pure expression of life!

I have struggled through the years with the compulsion to create more representational work, so as to reach a wider audience and gain “credibility”. I am always coming back to abstract as the purest, most resonant expression of my art, and remind myself that I am engaged in this endeavor to satisfy my own soul first and foremost.
I love the way your art so profoundly reinforces that devotion to the expression of “Formless Is” of the universe, without reservation or apology. Thanks for having the courage to set it free!

Love the ‘Alien’ movies. Saw the first one when I was working in the Mid East, late 70’s. Saw it in a theater in Tel Aviv. Hooked ever since.

I’ve always been a stickler for the word abstract. People use it to describe art that is not realistic, in which case, this becomes a very broad category. I used to teach my students that abstract art is art based on reality… that you could still see the “bones” of the idea within. But in reality, Abstract art runs the range from “that’s supposed to be a bicycle?” to “that doesn’t look like anything, much less a bicycle!”
I love swirls of color and paint, I generally think that art that is just about the beauty of color and form to be a non-objective form of an abstraction. That is, until you start seeing the snail! 🙂
Beautiful piece Sharon!

Thank you so much Sky! You are right that the term “abstract” has become muddied to mean all sorts of things. I’ve had people say they wanted an abstract flower, but what they really want is a flower that looks like a flower. Non-representational would best describe most of my work. But people call it abstract.

Truly outrageously vibrantly stunning Sharon.
Love it!
Vibrant!
