When I woke up this morning, this little guy was waiting for me on the island in the kitchen. It appears that my daughter did some nighttime spider hunting. We are definitely a catch and release family with these big daddy long legs. They eat mosquitoes which is invaluable in Florida, so I will put him out on the porch to dine. It struck me as I snapped this photo that it was more than just cute, it was also good advice. I’ve been inside too much lately and since I am still here to enjoy this World, I will kindly get myself outside today! Heading for the ocean….

I can’t tell what type of spider it is through the jar, but it looks more like a wolf spider or similar. Happy to hear you are a catch and release. The only spiders that get put outside from our house are black widows, but we rarely find them indoors.
Here when they have super long legs we just call em “Daddy Long Legs” which I am sure isn’t a scientific name for any spider…LOL They eat bugs, so they are welcome. 🙂 We’ve gotten only gotten one black widow anywhere near our house in 12 years…on the front door nesting in the wrought iron (egg sack). She had to go…
I looked up Wolf Spider and this little guy didn’t have any of those markings….From what I could see online, he looked like a Southern house spider.
That’s probably right. Isn’t the internet great for identifying critters, cars and things we would otherwise have no idea what they were?
My love affair with spiders is well documented on my blog.
😉
Glad to hear you set this one free!
Cheers,
Lance
O-M-G!!!!!! EEEEEEKKKK!!!!! Great shot though lol.
Hmmm, I think Daddy Long Legs have those long spindly legs and round bodies, and apparently are harmless to humans: http://www.livescience.com/33625-daddy-longlegs-spiders-poisonous.html. Maybe a wolf spider, and if these eat mossies then let it feast!

This made me smile – we do the same in our household 🙂 and you’re right, it’s universally good advice!! 🙂
My daughter can be quite endearing….Being autistic and a lot less likely to verbalize things, she has always left me little notes that make me smile. 🙂
So touching, thanks for sharing!
