“Never Forgotten”

As Summer comes to an end I find myself reflecting on all of the beautiful animals that have touched my life over the years. I’ve lost birds, pigs, goats, cats, fish and dogs. For me the greatest losses have come with the beautiful Great Danes we have adopted in the last 12 years. We bring in rescues. They are an amazing breed with so much love and devotion. Unfortunately, their lifespans are very short averaging 7-8 years. Two left us due to bone cancer, which is common in this large breed, especially the males. Our time with them was way too short, but the love they gave made it worth it. Others made it to ripe old ages of up to 11 years. I still think of all of them every day. They are never forgotten…
“Mogo” the black one (3+ years) and “Sampson” (7+ years) the fawn, both crossed the rainbow bridge just a year apart. They were best buddies…
“Bacchus” (6+ years) the larger patched harlequin, “Maile” (9+ years) the smaller patched and “Sophie” another black (11+ years). I miss them so much…

Wonderful that you’ve given a home to these dogs. We sold our home in PIngelly, Western Australia, to a lovely young man who adopted huskies in need, particularly elderly ones, so that they could live out their lives in peace and love, and with proper medical care and assistance. It was a joy to hand over our home to him.
That is wonderful….we’ve taken in special needs dogs too. We currently have a standard poodle that no one else would have wanted due to her health, but she is outliving them all! We do not have any great danes at the moment. We lost 3 in a row about a year apart and it was heartbreaking, so we adopted another yellow lab this time. 2 labs and a std. poodle for now….But I wouldn’t rule out another Great Dane in the future. 😉
Tears in my eyes … lost my two darlings within the last year … it’s hard. Beautiful artwork, Sharon … truly inspired.
So very hard….I am sorry for your loss Lois. We have stones with their names engraved in our bamboo garden. I see them all of the time and miss them so….

Lovely tribute to your magnificent animals Sharon!
Thank you Jo Ann!
Wonderful art work with deep meaning and message.
Thank you so much…
First of all thanks for following my blog or ‘the follow’ as everyone says. Loved this post and it made me tear up. What beautiful dogs. So sad that GDs have such short life spans.
Thank you Charlotte! I agree….I wish they lived longer too….But they bring so much life while they are here!
Sharon, I loved this – I loved the way you had the paw at the center of the hand – to we who love our dogs (any of our pets, for that matter), they are always at the center of our hearts along with the others we love in our families. I’ve had a few pups pass on; it’s never easy. We now have three dachshunds who run the house. 😀
Thank you Kate! I knew we weren’t the only crazy people with 3 large dogs. 🙂 Right now we have 2 yellow labs and a standard poodle….I am sure we will get a Great Dane again in the future, but we lost 3 in a row one year after the other and that took a toll….enjoy those pups!
Great Danes are wonderful!
Yes they are!

What a lovely post. My family has always had Labs as pets and our friends have a really cute Pug. Dogs are such wonderful companions and so very loveable. Thank you for sharing and I will do the same 🙂
Thank you Omaste! We love our yellow labs we have now. 🙂
