Are you afraid of color? We recently had a dinner party and one of our guests exclaimed, “I love your house. It’s so bold and full of color. I wish I was brave enough to decorate this way!” That really struck me as odd….Do you decorate your house for “other” people? I certainly do not. I surround myself with things I like to feel and see on a daily basis. When I get up in the morning, the colors I like welcome me into my kitchen. I look at the miniature paintings that are perched above my sink and I smile. Moving into the living room, I am embraced by rich deep red carpets that caress my feet. I sit at my computer and enjoy the purple and yellow painting my Mother In Law painted right in front of me. I see hearts and flowers and portraits of my animals. They are all bursting with color and life!
Muted earth tones and pastels just aren’t my style. If they aren’t yours either, but you still decorate that way, you have to ask yourself why? So that the occasional house guest doesn’t ask too many questions or even worse…..judge you? Art is personal and I believe you should surround yourself with what YOU like. Feed your own soul! They can find their sustenance elsewhere…

I agree completely. My house is very colorful … warm and inviting … well, at least it is to my eyes!! The funny contradiction, though, is that I usually dress mySELF in neutral tones!! I’m sure there’s a message in there somewhere, but not a clue what it is, lol!!!
Ha ha…i also dress in classic style…nothing too flashy…but I do look good in blues, reds and purple. I think that has more to do with hair and skin tone!
Yes I love a bit of color, my living room is bright orange and my hall and stairs are a lovely olive/lime green. Sounds awful but they look fab and are often admired.
Doesn’t sound awful to me! I love bright colors. 🙂
Nope! I embrace it! Lovely Zebra Sharon. 🙂
Happy Friday Laura! Thanks for stopping by…
Happy Friday to you too Sharon! I look forward to seeing what you come up with. And I think you know I love zebras!
I could not agree more, but I have so many wonderful paintings, that i can only put two or three up in my small town house, but who knows what the future holds; maybe a bigger place? Best wishes and blessings, Charles.
At least you have some up! You always need ART in your life. 🙂
I was thinking, that maybe I would loan the rest to the Cape Town National art gallery, then others could see the pictures, and I could go and see them when I wanted to. A donation to my towns art lovers, don’t know if they do such things though. Have a great weekend, best wishes and blessings, Charles.
That’s a fabulous idea Charles! You too have a GREAT weekend!
🙂
No … not afraid of colour … an amazing way of communicating thoughts, feelings and emotions…love the wonderfully colourful zebra…warm regards Karen
Another color warrior! Thank you so much Karen!
LOVE IT!!! Love zebras, of course, but the colour? Out of this world…. 😉
Thank you!
Your house sounds wonderful!
Come on over Kate. 🙂
I’d like to settle back with a glass of wine in your colorful house and enjoy the warmth of it. 🙂
