I always know when I am not leading a balanced life. My OCD kicks in and I start to obsess about things like Twitter, Pinterest and Fine Art America. I check my phone for updates too much and I stare at my computer screen a lot more than is healthy. My art is my passion and I create for the joy of discovery, but I also run a full-time business. My duties include but are not limited to:  painting, photography, data entry, marketing, public affairs, inventory, custodial, packaging, bookkeeping and customer service. Whenever I hear a 9 to 5er complaining about overtime, I just chuckle to myself. Most people do not know what true overtime is! But today I am taking a break. After I finish a few of my daily tasks, I am going to take care of “me”.  Mani Pedi here I come!

For over 18 years now I have had the great blessing to learn the lessons that only chronic vertigo can teach.  Specifically mine are migraine associated vertigo or MAV.  Actual headaches are rare at only one or two per month and they are controlled well holistically.  But the vertigo is insidious and comes and goes.  Mostly it comes with weather fronts and hormonal changes, but can show up at any time.  One of the things I have learned is that keeping my life as balanced and centered as possible is critical.  When I get the false sensations I know it is a good time to do some Yoga poses and reflect on where there is imbalance.  Once I hone in on it I can make adjustments to get me back to a place of peace.  Often it is overwork that causes me to slow down and tweak my daily routines.  I find the simple poses like the lotus work best for me to calm down my spirit and help me to get centered again.

Today’s offering from my “Transforming Energy” series reflects this sense of peace I gain during Yoga.

Enjoy!

It can be difficult to find balance in your life when you have so many demands pulling you in different directions.  Family, friends, work, health, etc. all need a place.  I create and list a lot of work and many have asked me things like “Do you sleep?”  I get 8 hours a night. I also market my work heavily and some have wondered how on earth I do it.  With experience, I have become extremely efficient at marketing.  I am also pretty handy with the camera and scanner.  I do most things quickly….I always have.  Patience is not one of my virtues!  I not only run a thriving successful art business, I also grow an organic garden, care for my daughter, care for animals and cook/prepare 95% of my own meals (Celiac).  I shop for my family, clean house and exercise every single day.  I go to dinner parties, family gatherings and art shows.  I play Scrabble.  I do not have extra hours in the day.  I am just big on balance and scheduling.   I do not allow myself to get distracted in web surfing or reading endless posts on Facebook.  I stay focused.  I have time slots for my work and I stick to them.  This ensures I have time for what is important in life.  I eat on a schedule too.  By keeping all that I do in priority when I am working on them or experiencing them, I never run out of time.   If I am at the park with my family, that is what I am doing and thinking about….not work. If I am working, that is my focus.  Some things you cannot help coming into your life to throw you off, but I have found that MOST of what keeps us from using our time wisely is useless.  How many cat memes have your read?  How many political posts? Farmville?  Tweets about what you had for lunch?  Do you sit on the toilet and get lost in a magazine?  Do you watch T.V.?  I don’t. That is how I do it…I do not waste time, so that I have plenty of it for everything I want in life!

This piece was discovered while I was creating a colorful abstract painting.  I say “discovered” because often when I create, I simply apply the medium and and the work reveals itself.  Michelangelo said it best:  I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.  I will wash, blow and splatter everything away from the painting until I find it.  “Dark Swan” appeared to me and really spoke to my soul.  It is dark, but there is lightness there also.  Just like the soul…..

I have really been working hard lately.  I am not sure why but I have more creative energy than I have ever had.  So I will leave you with another Michelangelo quote which best describes what I do each day: If people knew how hard I worked to get my mastery, it wouldn’t seem so wonderful at all.
