I am often asked by people if I have prints of certain paintings in my archives.  So often, I do not.  Ten plus years ago when I started painting and selling my art for a career, I did not have a camera that could take pictures with high enough resolution to produce quality prints.  I am lucky to get small prints of some.  A few have been successfully digitally remastered as well.  But my “Koi” were a no go on both fronts.  The piece above has been very popular for me as a commission and I absolutely enjoy painting them!  However, I wanted to be able to create prints as well.  So I painted one specifically for this purpose.  Now this piece can be enjoyed in a massive size!  Enjoi the koi!

Yesterday me and the hubby went on a little field trip.  We found our way to the Florida Botanical Gardens in Pinellas County. Somehow in all of these years in Tampa, this gem has been hidden from me.  We frequently drive down to Sarasota to enjoy the Selby Gardend, but this place was also amazing!  So many flowers all out in the open to see and smell.  The winding paths lead to many beautiful surprises.  Plus there is a little heritage village with old houses and buildings that were to be destroyed, but were saved and moved here. What a treat!

It is a macro lens photographer’s delight. 🙂

This past weekend was filled with fun and diversion from my normal routine.  I spent a lovely day with a friend in Tarpon Springs eating Greek food, playing pool and hitting the vintage shops.  I also got in some photography on Saturday.  My husband and I headed out to Sand Key, FL and surrounding beaches to soak up a little sunshine and explore beach condos.  While we were trekking about, these hot pink flowers really caught my eye.  They were ground hugging beauties.  He immediately identified them as “ice plants” which I had never seen in the South before.  He said they grow like wild up in California where he is from.  In 45 years this is my first ice plant spotting. Wow!  The color is fantastic (unaltered…straight from my Nikon D7000).  I find I actually “see” more when I carry my macro lens with me.  There really is so much beauty in our world. 🙂

I am creating new original paintings for my upcoming show.  I do a lot more digital work these days, so it is a nice change to go back to more visceral creativity.  I am recreating some of my pieces from 9 years ago, but with a different twist.  Unfortunately the camera I had back then didn’t capture my work well enough for large prints.  But these can go as large as 48×60!  Now that is big and definitely “Standing Tall”!  Happy Sunday all…..

Accidents happen….But sometimes they are pleasant surprises!  This piece was one such oopsie.  For those that work in Photoshop you know what a clipping mask is.  I was working in one space where I had created one and one layer accidentally went over another and I realized that parts of the bottom layer were included in the clipping mask (accidental) and this most beautiful pattern emerged….I kept moving the top layer until it covered the entire bottom….magic!  Pure magic!  Now I will have to try to replicate this “accident”.  I love creating art ….so much fun!

It has been said there are many roads but only one journey.  I have always liked that. Right now I feel as if I am on an odyssey with my artwork.  It is growing and expanding in directions that I never imagined it would.  I see no limits to what I can do.  I am also branching out from the traditional paint and list model.  I am really getting into my digital work and find it comes to me with ease and joy.  And best of all they are selling which gives me satisfaction in my work as well….I’ve got my creativity shoes on and will continue to see where this road takes me….

I’ve been very focused on my photography lately and I have thoroughly enjoyed capturing moments, telling stories and creating moods with my photos.  But yesterday I got back to some paint slingin’.  It sure felt good!  I was drawn to bold colors with energy and life. This piece reflects growth and renewal to me.  I see three buds stretching upward into a vivid yellow and green sky.   It makes me feel happy. 🙂
