Somethin’ About S.U.N.D.A.Y…

brick sayingWhen I was a little girl, Sunday mornings were fraught with anxiety and dread. It was a day of worship and family which should have been a rewarding and pleasant time. But when you grow up in a home and culture of abuse, it is anything but. It took me many years to lose my religion and find my spirituality. I am not against the tenets of most of the religions I know. It is the hypocrisy and misuse that is harmful to me. I have many friends who find their religious life enriching and integral to their lives. What a blessing! For me, I had to reclaim Sunday mornings and make them a peaceful time where I can relax, drink tea or read a book and contemplate all of the good in my life. I am thankful for so much! I also enjoy having a nice and calm meal with my husband and daughter. It’s a great day that I have come to look forward to each week.

Sunday….there is just something about it…

The buzz of hope

MakingWavesFBSummer is in full swing and I am headed to the beach for a few days.  It’s already pretty hot, but for us Floridians, it is the perfect time to splash in the surf.  The water is nice and cool and the tourists have all gone home.  Enjoy my latest painting “Making Waves” while I enjoy some of my own. 🙂

People always ask me about my favorite color.  That really is a hard question because I love ALL of the major colors and most of the secondary and beyond. Can I say that color is my favorite color?  Actually, it is green.  I’ve always had an affinity for this beautiful hue. It is so full of life and growing energy.  It makes me feel healthy and alive.  I lean toward the brighter shades up to lime green, but am equally comfortable with the rich earthy olives.  It’s a versatile shade.  I particularly enjoy pairing it with hints of blue as you see in my newest painting “Life Song”.  In this piece I believe the yellow is “green with envy”. 😉

Sometimes it feels like your life is in a rut and there is no way out.  You have lots of seeds planted, but nothing is happening.  There is plenty of creative sunshine and marketing water, but the seedlings stay the same size.  You keep doing what you’ve always done and you get the same results you’ve always gotten.

Just when you start to feel a little stale like there is nowhere else to expand, something happens to let you know that there is always room to grow.  Whether it is in a relationship, your health or career, you can always find new avenues to take you to destinations that will increase your satisfaction in life.

I am super busy this Spring with many projects in my fire, but they are all tasks that I have been doing for years.  Nothing new.  So I was delighted when an art consulting firm in Atlanta contacted me about designing art for a new hotel.  Right now, I only know they want tropical fish, 8 unique pieces and that it will have a Florida Keys theme. Talk about right up my alley!  Or should I say coral reef. 😉

So I am growing into new opportunities with my artwork.  The most important thing you can do to move in new directions is be “open” to them.  Right now I am WIDE OPEN!

Peaceful Understanding

Untitled-24

What is forgiveness?  Wikipedia says:  Forgiveness is the intentional and voluntary process by which a victim undergoes a change in feelings and attitude regarding an offense, lets go of negative emotions such as revenge, with an increased ability to wish the offender well.[1][2][3] Forgiveness is different from condoning (failing to see the action as wrong and in need of forgiveness), excusing (not holding the offender as responsible for the action), pardoning (granted by a representative of society, such as a judge), forgetting (removing awareness of the offence from consciousness), and reconciliation (restoration of a relationship).[1]

I believe it is a peaceful understanding that your health and happiness are more important than a painful event or the person that inflicted it.  It is a letting go and a knowing that you no longer need to keep being punished by the past.  That you deserve better than those memories.  It comes from loving and approving of yourself.

Peaceful Understanding……

You create something beautiful of course!  It’s not just lemonade. 😉  I have been super busy working on my licensing partner’s requests and commissions.  I also have an upcoming show scheduled for March 2nd here in Tampa (more on that soon).  But I still find time to create as it is a MUST for my soul.  It clears my mind and calms my heart.  Please enjoy my latest art!

As I continue my photographic journey I am realizing that a good picture has more to do with creativity than skill.  Skills can be learned, but imaginative expression cannot.  Having shifted my focus recently from my paint table to my camera, I am viewing the world a lot differently.  I am not looking to simply copy what other photographers are doing.  These days with the advent of virtually full-proof cameras, anyone can take a picture of a pretty flower and have it look really good.  I am looking for things that are slightly different.  Perfect flowers can be boring and I am anything but that.  I seek out the slightly edgy or spent.  I want flowers missing from the spray.  I look for torn edges and unpopular subject matter.  Sure, I will capture a perfectly beautiful rose when it happen to be in my visual path, but I am not looking for them.

This piece titled “Lavender Dance” was a single shoot with missing flowers in a patch of perfectly lovely lavender sprigs.  I liked that nature had taken some of it’s beauty, yet left some for me to capture still….

My skill will improve over time and I hope my imagination will too!

I have always had a fascination with light and shadow.  In my latest work titled “Violet Blue” I have used aqua as light and violet blues as shadow to create depth and dimension.  It has a fluidity as well that evokes a sense of watery movement.  Sit back for a moment and relax your eyes and just let your vision get absorbed into the light….feel the calm energy that fills your mind….
