In a calm moment before a storm broke out on Siesta Key Beach, I look up and down the coastline and spot a lone woman walking slowly beside the waves.  Her dress catches my eye immediately.  The bright red in direct contrast to the darkening surroundings.  She carries her matching shoes in one hand.  She appeared completely unconcerned by the ominous clouds forming overhead.  What was she thinking about?  A lost lover…..her career choices….the baby she gave up for adoption….her next novel….I will never know, but I find this image incredibly seductive with so many possibilities…..

Enjoy this Summertime treat from my Mother-in-law Betty Cummings.  She was inspired by a walk along Siesta Key Beach in Sarasota, Florida.  She used bright colors in her oils to achieve this tropical look.  I am so fortunate to own some of her original work.  And now everyone can enjoy prints too!

Venice

I’ve got the Summer blues.  I am not talking about the sad kind.  I am referring to the azure skies and blue aqua tint of the ocean waves of Florida.  There is also the deeper blue gray of rain in the distance that tends to come around 5:00 pm each day.  I am in Venice right now enjoying the salty air and cooler breezes that provide the only reprieve from the stifling heat.  This morning we went out and swam in the choppy swells.  The temperature was perfect and the sun was hidden behind the clouds for a few hours.  I would apologize for my frequent absences from my blog, marketing and work in general.  But I am far from sorry.  I’ve worked hard for this and can finally live the life I’ve always envisioned.  I am spending as much time as possible at the beach this year. It’s just heavenly…

A lot of people are looking for art online these days.  And it is currently a great place to find it too!  There are so many talented artists who represent themselves which enables them to offer pricing far below gallery.  I’ve been fishing lately too.  In the past 10 plus years I have created a lot of work.  And I recently rediscovered two tropical fish that I painted years ago.  What a catch!  Going through the many years worth of work is really interesting and fun.

Enjoy these fishy friends. 🙂

I got a little note from the Universe today which read, “You simply cannot know, Sharon What will make others happy.  But you can always know for yourself.  Go for it….The Universe”  That’s my reminder.  I have been working really hard painting custom work for others and creating pieces for my show that I’ve neglected what makes me happiest.  Like the picture above, I need some time for myself walking along my own creative beach.  There is such a freedom in just letting the energy from your soul release itself onto whatever canvas you choose.  So I am off to do just that today. 🙂

I really love hibiscus flowers.  You might know that from my avatar. 😉  They grow like weeds in Florida and this makes me smile.  We have a huge bush of them blooming just outside my studio right now.  The bright orange bud you see in my mouth is courtesy of this 10 year old plant.  Recently while walking the back streets of downtown St. Augustine, I came upon this long tall shoot with one red flower at the top.  The tree was barren otherwise and it’s surrounds were dead and brown…it was a beacon.  A reminder to me to stand tall and keep reaching for the sky no matter what garbage is all around me.  Enjoy!

Over the years I have experimented with a variety of styles. One of the greatest things about being an artist is that I have no boundaries for creative expression. I can create something different every day! I have developed a few signature styles in my art that I have not seen anyone successfully copy (it’s hard to copy someone else’s vision). People recognize my Labor of Love, Stone Rock’d, Pure Water and Black Magic the most. But this style you see here is one of my favorites. My art often evolves as I am creating and it is as much a delight to me to see what happens as I move paint and water around as it is to my collectors to view it. Deep Visions requires a lot of paint that is then sprayed and moved around with water. Adding expensive inference paints to the mix gives a opulence that is just stunning. This style is reminiscent of coral reef…deep sea…underwater treasures. I paint commission paintings, but no two could ever be exactly alike…
