The heat index in Florida is really ratcheting up! But I am staying busy with new commissions and a search for a beach cottage. 🙂 Stay tuned!

Are you afraid of color? We recently had a dinner party and one of our guests exclaimed, “I love your house. It’s so bold and full of color. I wish I was brave enough to decorate this way!” That really struck me as odd….Do you decorate your house for “other” people? I certainly do not. I surround myself with things I like to feel and see on a daily basis. When I get up in the morning, the colors I like welcome me into my kitchen. I look at the miniature paintings that are perched above my sink and I smile. Moving into the living room, I am embraced by rich deep red carpets that caress my feet. I sit at my computer and enjoy the purple and yellow painting my Mother In Law painted right in front of me. I see hearts and flowers and portraits of my animals. They are all bursting with color and life!
Muted earth tones and pastels just aren’t my style. If they aren’t yours either, but you still decorate that way, you have to ask yourself why? So that the occasional house guest doesn’t ask too many questions or even worse…..judge you? Art is personal and I believe you should surround yourself with what YOU like. Feed your own soul! They can find their sustenance elsewhere…

Don’t be afraid. It’s only color. I have to smile really big whenever I sell one of my bold mega colorful paintings. It lets me know that someone out there has the assertiveness to go with a piece that yells from the walls, “Look at me!!!” It is even more satisfying when it is an abstract. Abstracts make most people uncomfortable. Some will say that they just do not understand abstract art. There is good news! You do not have to. You just have to like it and have the courage to allow yourself to enjoy it. I do not understand how an opal is formed, but I know it’s beautiful. I do not understand how a beetle has such iridescence in it’s shell, but I know it is stunning. I do not understand how the human eye has all of those amazing patterns, but enjoy looking at them. A lot of people like familiarity and stick to representational artwork. But what so many do not realize is that the world has far more abstract imagery. It just takes a closer look. Have no fear!
