In a calm moment before a storm broke out on Siesta Key Beach, I look up and down the coastline and spot a lone woman walking slowly beside the waves.  Her dress catches my eye immediately.  The bright red in direct contrast to the darkening surroundings.  She carries her matching shoes in one hand.  She appeared completely unconcerned by the ominous clouds forming overhead.  What was she thinking about?  A lost lover…..her career choices….the baby she gave up for adoption….her next novel….I will never know, but I find this image incredibly seductive with so many possibilities…..

Are You a S.H.O.P.aholic?

Today I am taking my daughter and one of her friends shopping.  They love to shop for clothes and accessories, but what teen-aged girl doesn’t?  Ok me at that age.  I am not much of a shopper and never have been.  I have been told many times that I shop like a man.  You know the stereotypical male shopper right?  He knows what he needs, goes in and gets it and leaves.  If that is manly shopping then I must agree.  I shop like a man.

Now it’s a totally different story if you drop me into an art supply store.  I will look at every single item, take off caps, smell things, etc. Papers must be felt with my hands for textural nuances.  Price comparisons for canvas must be made.  And look at all of those colors of paint!  Every brush has to be pressed against my skin to determine it’s value.  I can spend hours immersed in art supplies.  So in this one way I am truly a “shopaholic”.

But today it is all giggles, lip-gloss and possibly neon tennis shoes. 😉  The only thing that makes the shopping part bearable for me is the fact that these ladies love a good bargain, so we will be hitting consignment shops and Goodwills.  You never know what you will find in those places. 🙂

No I am not drinking on the job. 😉  But I am playing with men’s neckties.  I’ve always had a fascination with these fashionable little pieces of art ever since I was a girl.  Let’s face it….for the most part men’s clothing is boring.  Sure, if you live in Milan and are a part of the fashion scene, there will be a lot of variety and flair.  But for the everyday man it is pants, shirt and a belt with very little color or pattern.  The only real way to jazz it up is a tie.  Ties are pretty.  Gay or straight, it is one way that men can show some artsy beauty without being judged by society.

In this piece cumulatively titled “Tying One On” I am not only showcasing the beauty of men’s attire, but also showing a little humor.

“Friday Morning”………….straight and ready for work:

I got a little note from the Universe today which read, “You simply cannot know, Sharon What will make others happy.  But you can always know for yourself.  Go for it….The Universe”  That’s my reminder.  I have been working really hard painting custom work for others and creating pieces for my show that I’ve neglected what makes me happiest.  Like the picture above, I need some time for myself walking along my own creative beach.  There is such a freedom in just letting the energy from your soul release itself onto whatever canvas you choose.  So I am off to do just that today. 🙂

There is something very musical in the way I paint.  The fluidity feels a lot like dancing.  In fact, sometimes I do dance while I work.  I always have music playing and this piece is a pure reflection of me…my art….The Dancer:
