I recently licensed my colorful grouper fish art to a Floridian to wrap their boat!  How cool is that?  There is no end to the creative ways that my art can be licensed and enjoyed. 🙂

I just cannot stop the creative process. Years ago, I was always a little sad when I finished a painting, sold it and sent it off to it’s new home. It meant that it was over. My baby had grown up and moved away. But with today’s digital technology, I can keep creating long after the initial painting is finished. My work lives on in other forms. How cool is that!

I can scan gigantic files of my work and crop out abstracts like this:

EnergyFlow1FB

Or I can combine the crops and create mirror image work like this one:

ParallelsFB

It’s all so magical to me. 🙂 And I will not stop!

A lot of people are looking for art online these days.  And it is currently a great place to find it too!  There are so many talented artists who represent themselves which enables them to offer pricing far below gallery.  I’ve been fishing lately too.  In the past 10 plus years I have created a lot of work.  And I recently rediscovered two tropical fish that I painted years ago.  What a catch!  Going through the many years worth of work is really interesting and fun.

Enjoy these fishy friends. 🙂

A Fish Tale…

My “Tropical Fish” is my BEST seller on Fine Art America. But he wasn’t my idea. 9 years ago I got a call from a woman in St. Thomas who was in desperate need for artwork. Her home had been destroyed by Hurricane Ivan and while they had rebuilt, they had no artwork for the walls. Living on a small island left her with no choices for huge abstract paintings.Debbie found me online and fell in love with my style and color choices. She needed 27 over sized paintings for a June wedding that would be held on her property. Her home would be filled with guests and she needed big bold splashes of color. The clincher is that she called me in April…and needed 27 paintings by June! Never one to back away from a challenge, I accepted her order and got to work! I painted daily…Some requiring 3 – 5 days to complete. I had pieces at all levels of drying phases on every table in my house. The fish was the last piece. She called me when I was close to being complete and asked if I could do a large tropical fish instead of the other style she had chosen. I agreed.

I did not sketch this fish out. I simply painted intuitively. I didn’t even look at tropical fish online for inspiration. I just selected bright colors and painted him just as you see him (in my mind’s eye). All spontaneous squirts and blobs of paint. I did not use a brush for this work in any area. Water and paint only.

I photographed him and sent him on his way to his new home in St. Thomas. Little did I know that all of these years later, my “Tropical Fish” would be so popular.

There is nothing fishy about the link below…click on it to enjoy more!

It’s that time a year again in Florida….hurricane season!  We start logging into NOAA daily to see what is forming off of the coast of Africa.  We listen to the news a little more closely and when the warning is issued we stock up on canned goods, water and batteries.  I’ve lived in this beautiful state my entire life and I have survived many nasty storms including major hurricanes. These things are quite humbling….you realize just how powerful Mother Nature really is.  But I would not live anywhere else…..I just keep an eye on the sky….

Stone Rock’d that is…..I just cannot seem to get rid of these crabs!  Growing up in Florida, crabs have always been a big part of my life.  As a child I romped freely on Siesta Key Beach in Sarasota Florida.  Crabs would often come ashore and I was completely fascinated.  The little fiddler crabs were great fun to watch scurry about, but Stone Crabs are especially interesting because they have one claw that is significantly larger than the other.  Funny looking creatures.  A gourmet delight in many restaurants they are ecologically sustainability harvested here just for their claws.  These guys can regrow their claws so when the fishermen take one it grows back.  How cool is that!  I found it both amusing and fitting to Stone Rock a stone crab…I love to paint and create and there is no end to inspiration on our planet!  The shape for this crab was inspired by a vintage Stone Crab plate…..Learn more about my crab art here:

Quick! Puffy Is Fast!

So I wanted a nice shot of a puffer fish to add to my collection of Tropical sea creature art. How hard can that be? They have puffer fish at The Florida Aquarium. I paid my 22 bucks and headed for the tank. They had 6 beautiful little puffy fish to choose from. Camera at the ready and it was off to the races…literally! These guys are fast flitting about the aquarium at lightening speed. Snap….snap…snap….I took over 100 photos. Surely I had some great shots somehow.  When I got home and downloaded all of the images almost all of them were just blurs. I could make out eyeballs here and there, but not a fin in sight! Until this one…the “magic” shot…be still my beating art.

I’ve been having a lot of fun in the last few days working on my photography.  I have a series of shots of underwater life courtesy of The Florida Aquarium.  I absolutely adore fish and you will find many of them in my paintings and art.  While I never seem to run out of creativity in painting and processing, I do sometimes get stumped for a name.  I’ve been known to use song titles, positive affirmations, popular book titles and movie titles.  But the piece you see here is it “Dive Bar”, “Watering Hole”, “Three’s Company”, “The Meeting”, “The Gathering Place” or something else……What would you name this piece?
