“I’ve Got Your Back”
New Mixed Media Art
Whose got your back? In my lifetime, I’ve heard the words many times, but have learned that only a precious few have actually meant it. I can count on my fingers the friends and family that have truly been there for me through thick and thin. Today I solute them and am thankful that I only have ONE back. 😉

Screen print from etched acrylic and ink.
This piece is definitely a one off by me. It started as an etching on a hard acrylic sheet that was then inked and pressed on a screen press. I remember the acrylic being very difficult to scratch into. I still have the block and the original sketch to this piece. A rare find…

When I decided to open up my 25 year old portfolios to the World, there was a sense of vulnerability that came with it. I’ve been a professional artist for around 12 years now, so that leaves 13 years unaccounted for. During that time, I worked on a Phd. in Holistic Nutrition and I was a personal trainer/nutritional consultant. That is a long story, but here I am today making a living doing what I have always loved!
While I have greatly appreciated all of the positive feedback I have gotten from my fans, friends and collectors, it is a comment from a stranger that sticks out the most. This person said that my pen and ink work is fake and Photoshop artistry. This person meant to be mean and nasty, but what I realize now is that it is the BEST compliment I have ever received on my art in my entire life! 25 years ago there was no Photoshop. In fact there was no computer artistry at all available to me. Everything was done by hand. Knowing that my work was as good then as Photoshop is today makes me feel more confident about sharing this older work with all of you. 🙂
While I could have taken the comment to heart in the way it was intended and closed up my portfolios for good, I’ve decided that this person will be a catalyst for me to share even more of myself. So a big THANK YOU goes out to “Sylvia” for her negative comments. You could have not have paid me a bigger compliment!
It’s old and frayed and the zipper is broken.
The one on the left contains originals and the one on the right are copies meant to show perspective employers.
Airbrushing, pen and ink, drawing and marker work are all represented here.
Billboard and magazine mock ups.
Markers were one of my favorite mediums to work with. I loved the colors and detail I could get with them!
And just for fun a few from childhood. The dates say middle school.
***I’ve left these images FULL-SIZED. Straight from my camera without any computer manipulation. Quick shots early this morning before the sun was up. So click on them and have a look. And PLEASE when I list them…..Tell me they look as good as Photoshop! 😉

I’ve read some reports that Facebook would be ending on March 15th or May 15th depending on which bogus site you happen to stumble upon. While other sites refrain from giving an exact date, they go on in length about why interest is declining on the site and it’s inevitable demise. They liken it to MySpace.
Do you remember MySpace? I sure do. It was my first foray into the world of Social Media and I met a lot of really great people there. Friends who have followed me to Facebook. Do I believe Facebook will end? Absolutely! Everything trendy/social seems to have a lifespan. Over time people get bored with the same ol’ same ol’. We always want something NEW…the latest and GREATEST! Just look at cell phones. A new improved model comes out yearly now.
While a social media site takes longer to “wear out”….it surely will. I imagine someday Facebook will be a place you go to say high to your Grandmother. But I also know that my friends and fans will follow me to the next Social Media adventure. 🙂
For now keep track of what I am doing on FACEBOOK before it ends! Like my page now. 🙂
I am heading out today with my husband to meet a new friend that I have been getting to know online through Fine Art America. I am excited to meet her! Her name is Jo Anne Tomaselli and I have enjoyed viewing and promoting her photography for the past few months. We plan on shooting some photos together today (weather permitting)…….So while I am away…..check out her work! I am especially fond of her portrait work. 🙂

I’d like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year! For me 2013 was a mixed bag as I had a tremendous amount of success with my business and a great renewal of love with my husband and daughter, but I had some serious upheaval in my personal life. I lost a beloved dog, a best friend and also had to disconnect from some of my family members. 2014 is full of promise and it is time for an energy shift! I will be doing things this year that I have never done in every aspect of my life. Life is for living and I plan do do a lot more of that this year! Hold on to your hats…..it’s gunna be a wild ride!
I hope you are having a happy Christmas….For many years of my life, I did not enjoy the Holiday. When I was 10 years old my Dad committed suicide just 6 days before Christmas…for me the Holiday lost all meaning and became a horror to get through each year….until…..I had my own child. My daughter is the most exuberant and festive person I have ever known. Everything must be decorated! She isn’t a materialistic person so simple little inexpensive gifts give her plenty of joy! Stocking stuffers are a favorite. She loves to bake and clean the house for guests. She makes cards and sings all the classics starting December 1st. Really there is NO way to avoid feeling HAPPY about the Season with her in my world!! She changed my life…and now Christmas is again Merry for me.
The piece above really expresses my life right now…me…my husband and our daughter…..Merry Christmas ALL!!

Yes I did! I’ve got my first art show under my belt and it was a great success! It was a very small show, but I still sold 3 originals and 30 prints. Other artists around me who have done many shows said I did amazing….phenomenal and outstanding. I’ve got my eye on something for March or April and then next year a BIG show (you have to apply to the big shows up to a year in advance).
I learned a lot going through this experience and that wisdom is priceless. Just like online sales, art does not sell itself. It is not enough to just set up your tent and hide to the side. Of all of the tents I could see and the two on either side of me, I was the one making sales and getting people into my space. And the phrase “getting people in” is similar to what I do online. I had to invite them. Smile. Engage them by talking and wave them in. Once inside they relaxed and looked around and many bought. I found just talking to folks…..including their kids…..laughing…..this is what made sales. I sold prints to two people who bought because their children liked my work. I engaged the kiddos too by addressing them and showing them work I thought they would like. Their parents seemed to love this and out came the credit cards when the wee ones had made their choices. That’s the sales person in me talking, but all of that was not the best part of the show.
I was touched by the friends who came out to support me. Some bought, but most just came to say hello and let me know that they wanted to be a part of my big day. My in-laws also made the drive up to help make the day special. One friend especially made me smile because I had not seen him in over 13 years. It felt really good to see the love and friendship.
So yes….I did it and I will do it again. 🙂
