Enjoy this Summertime treat from my Mother-in-law Betty Cummings.  She was inspired by a walk along Siesta Key Beach in Sarasota, Florida.  She used bright colors in her oils to achieve this tropical look.  I am so fortunate to own some of her original work.  And now everyone can enjoy prints too!

I will be busy this week with family and Thanksgiving festivities….went down south today to spend some time with relatives who flew in from Colorado….It was a little chilly for a beach day, but this little girl was determined to enjoy herself.  She was so caught up in the simple joy of digging in the sand when her parents graciously let me take a few quick snaps….aaaahhhhh I remember….

Who do you confide in?  We all have parts of ourselves that are secret.  There may be that rare individual that comes into our lives that we feel comfortable enough with to be vulnerable and we share.  But for the most part we carry our experiences and feelings inside.  Trust is a big issue for most humans.  That is where dogs come in.  There is something about their unconditional love that allows us to love freely and without fear. We trust them.  This piece is all about that trust.  Showing secret places.  I Trust You….

I have always enjoyed the female form for it’s interesting curves and shadows…at every turn there is a soft hill or burrow.  In college I volunteered as a model for many figure drawing classes.  I was always struck by how professional and non-sexual posing for a class was. Afterwards, many thanked me for my time and shook my hand.  No one ever checked me out or came on to me.It was so very intriguing to walk around and see the many different ways that individual artists interpreted my body.  Some making me Rubenesque while others took away my curves. Larger breasts. Smaller breasts.  So many styles and creative minds.I am the model in most of my nude paintings and my husband is the photographer.”Vulnerable” is a very personal piece. A woman’s back has always seemed to me to be so very sensitive, tender and exposed. My Labor of Love pieces are one of my most recognizable and collected of my styles.  It was a challenge to transform a painted medium onto the computer, but the results were fantastic. Sections of my Labor of Love arrangements hand sewn to form exquisite patterns.  Stone Rock’d Art was born. She is on her way to becoming one of my best sellers…..feel her vulnerability by clicking the link below:

Good Girl…..Bad Girl

Someone posted on my Facebook today that I ought not say anything that shatters the illusion of my “good girl” status.  I had to laugh because I did not know I had one of those.  Now I do not believe I am a “bad girl” either.  What is a “good girl” anyway?  Is she one that stays quiet or only says things to flatter their husbands or their children?  Is she one that does not stand for anything?  Does she only wear clothing that covers most of her skin?  Does she never curse and never ever have a drink in a bar?  Does she cook dinner every night and keep the house tidy?  Would she only paint flowers and puppies?  There is no such thing as a “good girl” because there is no Worldwide agreement as to what constitutes this label.  We have one for “water”, but when it comes to women all else is just an opinion usually based on religion.  If you look around my portfolio you will get a glimpse into my personality.  I have many facets including dark and gothic imagery. I believe in peace, love and equality, but I am certainly not afraid to tap into my dark and/or sensual side.  There is a Country song performed by Patty Loveless that describes me well:  I ain’t the woman in red, I ain’t the girl next door, But if somewhere in the middle’s what you’re lookin’ for, I’m that kind of girl….

“Good girls” don’t get raped right?  In this piece titled “I Wanted To Tell You” I visually express the oppression of women….all of the women who are forced to stay silent……all of the women who MUST be “good girls”.
