For many years I painted.  I painted on canvas and I painted on yupo.  That is all I really did.  I was a painter. Eventually I got into photography and that was a nice change, but still something was missing.  My patterns were stale and I needed to be refreshed!  I still paint and take photos, but I am more than a painter and photographer. I am also a designer.  I am an artist in every sense of the word.  I have started seeing patterns in my photographic and painterly work, so naturally I am putting them together to create new art.  Art from art.  And what I love the MOST about this creative expression is that it can just continue to GROW infinitely…

Limitless……change……..growth.

This is my very first Labor of Love piece that I painted nearly 10 years ago. It’s quite popular as a print, but what most people do not realize is that this is only 1/3 of the painting.  Because the camera I had at the time would only make a small print of the entire piece, I photographed it in sections.  I now offer them as separate prints:  Abstract 1, 2 and 3.

Image

These works are indeed a labor of love for me and I pant them sparingly now by commission only.  The sad truth is I can make a lot more for my time creating simple abstracts that take minutes to finish.  These take many days and weeks to have a final work of art. It is one example of hard work not paying off.  Unless you can sell prints…

Image

I am delighted that the many hours spent making spirals and hand framing each stone in black is finally paying off!  You can enjoy Abstract 1 for a limited time at a very low price!

As I am working away here getting ready for my upcoming art show and completing custom work for the Holidays, I find I have a good problem.  I had 5 original paintings on canvas that were going to be showcased in the show, but they have all sold!  So I am working even harder to create more work.  I will not list these new pieces because I actually need some originals on my display panels. 🙂  I have been moved by the support I am receiving lately.  I have collectors who say they will drive upwards of 6 hours to come to see me and that they have been waiting for me to have a show.  One person is driving across state and another is coming from Georgia.  If my people are going to come that far….I’d better make sure I have some real nice paintings to show them. 🙂  Cheers!

A Labor Of Love

This is how it all began….my Labor Of Love series.  This was my very first piece titled “A River Runs Through It” after the movie.  Choosing titles is always an interesting endeavor!  This painting is actually a single piece.  I divided it into three pieces because that is the only way I could photograph it at the time (9 years ago) and have it look good.  My camera could not process it in it’s entirety without it looking blurry.  I am so glad I did as to this day these are some of my best sellers!

Image

I am painting some new originals for my upcoming show.  These take a lot of time and patience so this will be a real treat for my fans.  I have not created many new works in this series in the last few years.  Namely because they just do not make a lot of sense for my business.  What takes me a week in these, I can make the same income from other works which only take an hour or so.  A week of work for the groceries or an hour of work for groceries.  Anyone can do the math.

Image

The good news is that these can be enjoyed anytime whether I am painting new work or not. And commissions are always welcome.  You can find a great selection of my Labor of Love here:

I am going to be in an art show.  This doesn’t sound like big news as most would expect that an artist would be in art shows.  However, after 10 years as a professional artist this is my first show.  My career has not followed a traditional path due to certain physical disabilities that I have faced over those 10 years.  I’ve never made an issue out of them and I never wanted anyone to buy my artwork out of pity, so you will not see mention of any of it in my bio.  Even most of my friends never knew of my greatest issues as I suffered in silence.  Some learned of it as I had times where I could not avoid telling them because it was severe when I was with them.  Most of the time, I just found ways to cope so no one would know.  My two disabilities were severe gastrointestinal problems and vertigo, both of which kept me out of shows and a lot of other things in life.  I learned a few years ago that I had Celiac disease and I started eating gluten free.  It has taken awhile for my body to heal, but it has to a point where I am now confident to go out and spend a day with the public without worries of needing to go to the bathroom often or worse not being able to stand or walk.  It is not easy for me to share these things publicly, but now that they are in my past, I am o.k. with it.  I am just delighted to look toward the future with hope and joy!  I will post an invitation a week before the show, but it is the 5th Annual Arts In The Park in Ybor City here in Tampa on December 14th from 9 – 4.  It is a juried show and I am delighted to have been chosen!  Stay tuned!

Life’s Currents…

ImageLife is a funny thing.  It is sort of like a huge ocean with many currents pulling you in varying directions. Sometimes you get into a bad current…an undertow that pulls you into places that do not nourish your soul. For me Ebay was such a place.  I started my art career selling on the site.  Don’t get me wrong, I love it when I want a cheap curling iron or collectible pez dispenser, but it is no place for me.  I never felt good there. Luckily, life’s currents have also pulled me into good directions.  I was able to move on from garage sale mentality many many years ago and see my value.  I moved into a place of fulfillment in my work. I enjoy my collectors now in a way I never have before. I build personal relationships that last year after year. I make new friends too through the sales of my prints and originals.  It feels so good to be in that upward flow into life. As I have been undergoing this revitalization I have also had to deal with loss. The loss of some friendships which were not healthy for me.  Friendships that were laced in resentment. So today I am feeling a surge of vitality….a load let off my shoulders.  A renewal!  And speaking of revitalizing. Recently I discovered I was able to digitally remaster some of my very early works so that my collectors could collect super large prints of these paintings.  I have always wished that I would have had a better camera back in the day as my photos of these are very small.  But thank’s to Photoshop I can share them again to a new audience.  Enjoy more here:

P.S.  A big shout out to all of my new Australian fans who have been visiting my blog like crazy the last 24 hours.  Welcome aboard mates!
