Tuesday’s Sexy Seduction…

My art is not all abstract and puppies.  I do have a sexy side.  I’ve always loved the clean look of black and white artwork.  It fits into any decor.  This image titled “Seduction” was originally created over 12 years ago based on a photograph my husband took of me.  I have “marblized” it here.

Unfortunately, this beautiful piece has ended up on some clip art sites illegally.  Never use clip art online.  You can find yourself slapped with a copyright infringement case. Clip art sites need content, so they steal it from legitimate artists.  They have a disclaimer in the fine print which says you can only look at it, but people never read those notices and think it’s o.k. to use on their website or other promotional material. I’ve even had another artist use this image and try to call it their own.  It’s how you get sued.  I have the metadata date stamped original.  It is registered with the U.S. Copyright office and I do pursue infringements.

So just enjoy art from the source!  If you need content or reference, always ask permission before using any art online.  Do a reverse image search to find out ownership.  It’s so worth it!

Sometimes you can have it YOUR way.  A client recently asked me if I had any artwork with soft grays, orange and a hint of black.  I did not.  However, with the magic of the digital age comes customization that was never possible before. In the past I would have had to buy paint and canvas, use paper to cover my painting table, paint it, use water to clean my brushes, paper towels and electricity.  Plus I would have to let it dry completely for 3 to 5 days and then photograph it.  Send it to the client for approval and if so, then upload the photographs. After that I would have to spend time manipulating and cleaning the photo before I could finally get it loaded to a print site for purchase.  Whew! That’s a lot of work.

Today I can simply convert colors on Photoshop to create a completely new piece from an original painting.  Very little resources wasted.  Green Art.  How cool is that!

MakingWavesFBSummer is in full swing and I am headed to the beach for a few days.  It’s already pretty hot, but for us Floridians, it is the perfect time to splash in the surf.  The water is nice and cool and the tourists have all gone home.  Enjoy my latest painting “Making Waves” while I enjoy some of my own. 🙂

People always ask me about my favorite color.  That really is a hard question because I love ALL of the major colors and most of the secondary and beyond. Can I say that color is my favorite color?  Actually, it is green.  I’ve always had an affinity for this beautiful hue. It is so full of life and growing energy.  It makes me feel healthy and alive.  I lean toward the brighter shades up to lime green, but am equally comfortable with the rich earthy olives.  It’s a versatile shade.  I particularly enjoy pairing it with hints of blue as you see in my newest painting “Life Song”.  In this piece I believe the yellow is “green with envy”. 😉

My Dark Side

My work tends to focus on bright and vivid colors.  The brighter the better as far as I am concerned.  I am not afraid of red and orange and use them copiously within my paintings.  So it is definitely “different” for me to produce darker imagery.  But I do have a “dark side” and enjoy eliciting a feeling from my viewers using just shadow, highlights and shape.

The piece displayed above titled “Revelation” started as a photograph of a Nambe bowl which is a solid shiny silver.  I then used a variety of processing to achieve the end result.  It “revealed” itself to me and now I to you.  Enjoy!

Peaceful Understanding

What is forgiveness?  Wikipedia says:  Forgiveness is the intentional and voluntary process by which a victim undergoes a change in feelings and attitude regarding an offense, lets go of negative emotions such as revenge, with an increased ability to wish the offender well.[1][2][3] Forgiveness is different from condoning (failing to see the action as wrong and in need of forgiveness), excusing (not holding the offender as responsible for the action), pardoning (granted by a representative of society, such as a judge), forgetting (removing awareness of the offence from consciousness), and reconciliation (restoration of a relationship).[1]

I believe it is a peaceful understanding that your health and happiness are more important than a painful event or the person that inflicted it.  It is a letting go and a knowing that you no longer need to keep being punished by the past.  That you deserve better than those memories.  It comes from loving and approving of yourself.

Peaceful Understanding……

Ever Tasted Luscious?

Luscious.  Say it very slowly.  Just saying the word feels sensual.  The original meaning had to do with food.  It was used in reference to vittles that were sweet and pleasant to taste or smell. However, it has also come to mean strong sensual or sexual appeal.  You can have luscious lips or a luscious lychee.

My new piece is titled “Luscious Lemon”.  We typically do not think of this yellow citrus fruit as sweet, but there is a variety that grows well in Florida.  It is called a Meyer’s lemon and I’ve just planted a tree!  They are fragrant and have a sweeter, less acidic flavor than the more common Lisbon or Eureka supermarket lemon varieties.  You can peel and eat these beauties.  They are native to China and thought to be a cross between a true lemon and either a mandarin or common orange.  The orange in the mix explains their more luscious taste. 🙂

If you can get your hands on some Meyer’s lemons, I highly suggest you stock up.  They are addictive in a good way.

Bon Appetit!
