“Parrot Head”

I really couldn’t resist naming this guy “Parrot Head”.  After all it is both, literally and figuratively.  And I do live in paradise close to margaritaville.  I’ve got tropical shirts and a hammock.  I just need to turn on some Jimmy Buffet tunes and I can convince myself that it is 5 o’ clock somewhere. 😉

Maybe this post isn’t as tantalizing as “Girls Gone Wild” but us artists do have a tendency to let go sometimes and just create without boundaries. Â I love painting fish and birds with a tropical flair, but I usually know in advance that I will be painting them. Â This piece titled “A Rare Bird” is one of those pieces that seemed to paint itself. Â I just started slinging paint and lo and behold a bird appeared. Â I love these moments in creativity. Â I’ve learned to just go with it….It’s a wild ride!

A lot of people are looking for art online these days. Â And it is currently a great place to find it too! Â There are so many talented artists who represent themselves which enables them to offer pricing far below gallery. Â I’ve been fishing lately too. Â In the past 10 plus years I have created a lot of work. Â And I recently rediscovered two tropical fish that I painted years ago. Â What a catch! Â Going through the many years worth of work is really interesting and fun.
Enjoy these fishy friends. 🙂

There is no shortage of strange and fascinating flora and fauna in Florida.  Luckily we grow more than mold. 😉  I’ve always been attracted to The Bird Of Paradise flower.  The leaves and are boring and a dull green, but when they flower it is an explosion of color!
As I continue my photographic learning journey, I am delighted with the choices I now have. Â I can choose to list a pure photograph or I can process the imaged to create a unique work of art. Either way it is a joy to create!

When I take photographs, I like to either find a story or have the piece ask a question. Palm trees are everywhere in Florida and there is no great mystery to them. Â But this one was all alone and one of the tallest palms I have ever seen. Â High into the clouds….what is happening below? Â There could be lovers sitting and chatting. Â A dog could be asleep. Â A bike could be propped up against it’s trunk. Â It could be right on the ocean or in a parking lot. Â The vibrant blue sky reveals nothing. Â What story do you see?

I was recently helping someone on Houzz decorate their “coastal” living space when they asked me if I had anything with palm trees. Â I had to think about it, but was surprised to realize that out of all of the tropical pieces I have in my portfolio, not a one of them had palm trees. Â I live in the tropics and palm trees are everywhere, but somehow I have not featured them in my art. Â I’ve got beaches, sunsets over the water, tropical flowers, fish, crabs, boats, etc. Â Jimmy buffet wouldn’t be happy. Â So today I have listed my first piece of artwork featuring palm trees. Â The graceful beauties of the tropics…enjoy!
