“The Dreaming Tree”
Mixed Media Art
Sharon Cummings
2014
I’ve always had a special place to go to dream. Â For most of my life, it’s been a special tree. Â Everywhere I’ve lived, I had to find one. Â I would either climb up into it’s branches or swing from a rope/tire. Â Now, I just sit under it’s cooling shade and let myself go….

Today I am taking my daughter and one of her friends shopping.  They love to shop for clothes and accessories, but what teen-aged girl doesn’t?  Ok me at that age.  I am not much of a shopper and never have been.  I have been told many times that I shop like a man.  You know the stereotypical male shopper right?  He knows what he needs, goes in and gets it and leaves.  If that is manly shopping then I must agree.  I shop like a man.
Now it’s a totally different story if you drop me into an art supply store. Â I will look at every single item, take off caps, smell things, etc. Papers must be felt with my hands for textural nuances. Â Price comparisons for canvas must be made. Â And look at all of those colors of paint! Â Every brush has to be pressed against my skin to determine it’s value. Â I can spend hours immersed in art supplies. Â So in this one way I am truly a “shopaholic”.
But today it is all giggles, lip-gloss and possibly neon tennis shoes. 😉  The only thing that makes the shopping part bearable for me is the fact that these ladies love a good bargain, so we will be hitting consignment shops and Goodwills.  You never know what you will find in those places. 🙂

Â
I’ve always had a goal or two in my mind. Â Over the years my visualizations have changed, but one thing has stayed constant. Â I’ve ALWAYS dreamed. Dreaming plays an important role in our lives. Â It helps us cope with the stresses of life by taking us to places that are safe and comfortable. Â It gives our brain a much needed rest. Â Whether it is while you sleep or while you are wide awake, a dream is a sanctuary. Â It also helps the good in life materialize. Thoughts become things. Â So the more you focus on positive dreams, the more beautiful your life’s illusion will be. Â Row row row your boat….life is but a dream……

Are you afraid of clowns?  I find this an unusual fear, but then again I am freighted by grasshoppers.  Phobias are funny things, but I know where mine comes from.  I think clowns are funny looking and perhaps a little too cheerful.  I was always perplexed as a child by their colorful wardrobe, painted on smiles and tears.  Often a paradox.  I mostly saw clowns at the local rodeo as I grew up in the country and that was all there was for entertainment.  I never saw a circus, but once a year we watched the bucking broncos, bulls and the clowns.  It was a dangerous job for these guys to be out there taunting the animals to distract them from a fallen cowboy.  I now find rodeo’s cruel and would never attend, but I do remember the funny characters that entertained us so well. 🙂

Today is a “play day” which means I will not be spending hours in front of the computer. Instead I will be doing some things that I love to do like bike ride with my Hubby and creating just for fun.  I am putting a new piece over our fireplace. 🙂  Enjoy your day everyone!
