My art has been licensed by thousands of businesses and individuals all over the World.  Usually my work ends up on a wall, but sometimes it surprises me where it will appear.  A drone….Who would have thought?  It’s a design submission by one of my fans/licensees.  I hope they make it!

You can license my work and save money.  Even for PERSONAL use!

You’ve found one of my prints online and you need a large size.  You love it!  But what you do not love is the high shipping and handling charges associated with transporting such a large canvas.  There is a solution!  I am happy to license my work to you for your personal and/or business use. Why pay 300 – 400 in shipping charges when you can find a local printer who can use one of my high resolution images to make you exactly what you want for a lot lower price!

The process is easy.  I have a simple legal contract for us to sign and I send you an invoice.  Once paid, I put the high resolution image into a Dropbox folder for you.  You then share that with your printer so they can make your print for a fraction of the cost. A lot of my overseas businesses license from me instead of paying for crazy shipping.

This art consulting firm wanted a huge wall mural map for a client.  Shipping would have made it prohibitive.  So they licensed the work and here is the result!

My “Black Magic” are scheduled to appear in tomorrow’s episode of Criminal Minds (9pm EST).  Look for them in the Beauty Salon scene.  About a month ago, someone from CBS’s art department contacted me for licensing rights to 6 of my “Black Magic” images. I said yes.  Fees were paid, a contract was signed and my episode was revealed.  It’s exciting!

Sometimes it feels like your life is in a rut and there is no way out.  You have lots of seeds planted, but nothing is happening.  There is plenty of creative sunshine and marketing water, but the seedlings stay the same size.  You keep doing what you’ve always done and you get the same results you’ve always gotten.

Just when you start to feel a little stale like there is nowhere else to expand, something happens to let you know that there is always room to grow.  Whether it is in a relationship, your health or career, you can always find new avenues to take you to destinations that will increase your satisfaction in life.

I am super busy this Spring with many projects in my fire, but they are all tasks that I have been doing for years.  Nothing new.  So I was delighted when an art consulting firm in Atlanta contacted me about designing art for a new hotel.  Right now, I only know they want tropical fish, 8 unique pieces and that it will have a Florida Keys theme. Talk about right up my alley!  Or should I say coral reef. 😉

So I am growing into new opportunities with my artwork.  The most important thing you can do to move in new directions is be “open” to them.  Right now I am WIDE OPEN!

When Things Fall Apart…

When I first started to write this post it was going to be about the pros and cons of art licensing.  However, a quick Google search will turn up a gazillion articles on exactly that.  So I will keep this writing to two points.

There are two important factors in any healthy relationship including those between a potential licencor and licencee:  communication and listening with intent.

When all of the elements are there for success such as an enthusiastic and hard working sales person on their end and a seasoned professional artist with great content on the other.  What can go wrong?

Whether it is a marriage, home purchase, licensing agreement, etc. there is always a deal breaker.  And to avoid that, you must learn a few skills such as listening with intention.

This is an important point.  Listening with intention simply means that you pay attention to what the other party is saying with the intent to “understand” and not just “respond”.  Once you set your own feelings and thoughts aside and gain an understanding of the other person, you can then know exactly how to proceed. When someone is clear and direct with you, it is always in your best interest to fully comprehend.  And when they are not, ask questions if you are uncertain.  Never assume anything.

Communication is defined as any act by which one person gives to or receives from another person information about that person’s needs, desires, perceptions, knowledge, or affective states.  In other words if you have a great idea, share it with the other person.  If there is something you want to do that involves them or their content, call them or email them with your intentions.  Sucker punches never feel good.  Keep them in the loop.

If you have aspirations to be a great sales person no matter what you are selling it would be in your best interest to hone in on the above skills.  There are many books, self help workbooks, CD’s and seminars to help you along the way.  These tools are investments in your future.  I encourage you to pursue them.

When things fall apart like a big contract or art sale, stop and do an autopsy on the entire process from the first phone call to the last email.  Ask yourself some key questions such as:  Did I communicate clearly with the other party?  Did I give them as much information as I could to facilitate trust?  Did I read their emails carefully and ask questions where there was uncertainty?  Did I respond to their questions adequately?  Did I validate them?

Today’s offering is “Clear Purpose”….fitting I think. 🙂

I got a call on Friday while my husband and I were on a photo shoot in St. Petersburg, Florida.  We were capturing images of the beautiful birds that call our state home.  Pelicans and blue herons mostly.  The call was timely as it came from one of my licensing agents who had just completed a trade show in Atlanta, Georgia.  Her voice was hoarse and weak from all of the talking she had to endure, but she couldn’t wait to give me the news.  They had taken a handful of my animal pieces for display and got a tremendous response from buying agents for zoos, aquariums and museums from around the country.  I was specifically excited to hear that the San Diego Zoo was interested in my work!  More animals she says…….and that is exactly what I was working on! Serendipity is definitely “for the birds”. 🙂

Licensing…..every week or so, I get asked by some company to license my art work.  I have considered many, but up until now have declined.  Most outfits look unprofessional and perhaps a bit “fly by nightish”.  Some have contracts that are too restrictive which would cause me to loose control of the images they will be using.  Some have no real accountability for sales which leaves an artist open to being taken advantage of.   But yesterday I signed my first contract with http://www.posterservice.com/.  They have been in the industry for over 25 years and my work will be retailed in stores like Spencer’s gifts and College Bookstore’s.  They have chosen my guitars and I am excited for this opportunity to have more people exposed to my art!
