Crab2

No not “those” kind!  But now that I’ve gotten your attention, let’s take a look at this strange looking ocean creature. Crabs are decapods (ten legs) crustaceans (their skeleton is on the outside) and arthropods (they have segmented legs). Interesting FACTS:

If a crab loses a claw, it will grow back.

Males grow one larger claw.  It’s purpose is to impress female crabs rather than for attack or defense.

A crab’s teeth are in its stomach.

Crabs can be carnivores, herbivores, or omnivores.

Crabs can also be cannibals and will sometimes feed on weaker crabs of the same species.

There are 6,793 species of crabs divided into 93 families.

King Crabs are not considered true crabs.  Neither are Hermit, Porcelain, or Horseshoe Crabs.

We began on a light note, so we might as well end on one too. 🙂

Man walks into a restaurant and says, “Do you server crabs here?”

The hostess replies, “We serve everyone.  Have a seat.”

This isn’t the piece I had planned on listing today.  When a new father living in Seattle contacted me yesterday to tell me how much he loved my maps and that he wanted a special piece for his new baby girl but could not find anything, I couldn’t resist creating this one.

In his email he explained that he grew up in New England and that he wanted to share his heritage with his daughter.  He wanted things in their home to remind him of his childhood and to teach her about it as well.   Once I finished the work and sent him a preview, his response was:

“OMG Yes!”

And that is what makes my job so rewarding.  I can make people that happy just by doing things that come naturally to me. 🙂

There is something so carefree about being on a bike.  I grew up riding around my neighborhood on Siesta Key, Florida.  I love bicycling and do it often.  I recently purchased a new beach cruiser in a nice cream color with a brown leather saddle seat.  It is so comfortable and easy to ride.  The picture here is not my bike.  I was at Lido Beach this past weekend and while walking along the shoreline, I came across this beauty.  No lock. No owner anywhere.  Just sitting there as if it was placed there from a different time….a memory….a ghost asking me “Remember when?”
