It is my honor to create custom memorials for both people and pets. We all grieve and we all must heal our hearts. While the loss never truly goes away, we can find comfort in our faith, those left behind and in the art and words of someone who cares…

In a calm moment before a storm broke out on Siesta Key Beach, I look up and down the coastline and spot a lone woman walking slowly beside the waves.  Her dress catches my eye immediately.  The bright red in direct contrast to the darkening surroundings.  She carries her matching shoes in one hand.  She appeared completely unconcerned by the ominous clouds forming overhead.  What was she thinking about?  A lost lover…..her career choices….the baby she gave up for adoption….her next novel….I will never know, but I find this image incredibly seductive with so many possibilities…..

I still have some images that I scanned from my old portfolio to share.  This is a pretty emotional piece for me.  What are they saying?  Or are they speaking without any words at all?

Somethin’ About S.U.N.D.A.Y…

brick sayingWhen I was a little girl, Sunday mornings were fraught with anxiety and dread. It was a day of worship and family which should have been a rewarding and pleasant time. But when you grow up in a home and culture of abuse, it is anything but. It took me many years to lose my religion and find my spirituality. I am not against the tenets of most of the religions I know. It is the hypocrisy and misuse that is harmful to me. I have many friends who find their religious life enriching and integral to their lives. What a blessing! For me, I had to reclaim Sunday mornings and make them a peaceful time where I can relax, drink tea or read a book and contemplate all of the good in my life. I am thankful for so much! I also enjoy having a nice and calm meal with my husband and daughter. It’s a great day that I have come to look forward to each week.

Sunday….there is just something about it…

I don’t just sell art.  I form relationships with my collectors.  I bring people together, make a house a home or an office a welcoming place.  I create and inspire.

A few years ago one of my collectors contacted me with a very special request.  She said it took her many months to get up the nerve to ask because she thought I would say no.  Her Mom had passed away and she wanted to do something special with her ashes.  She wanted to know if I would be willing to incorporate some of her mother into one of my pieces.  A commission based on “Fire Over Copper Lake”.  I did not hesitate and said yes.

I was soon touched to learn that we shared a Native American ancestry.  Her Mom was a healer in this life and touched many souls.  In my lifetime I have had a spiritual guide named Ama which means water in Cherokee.  The piece I would be creating had to do with a “lake”…or water.  Her mother’s Indian name was “clear water”.  Creating this memorial painting felt more than right for me….it felt like a homage to my own spiritual mother as well.  She arrived in a beautiful pouch surrounded by the sweet smell of sage.  I handled her with care and blessed her ashes before I mixed them with the paint.  The piece turned out beautifully….my collector was moved beyond words…and I like to think that a few ashes are here in my studio still and that Ama is with me always…..

I got a little note from the Universe today which read, “You simply cannot know, Sharon What will make others happy.  But you can always know for yourself.  Go for it….The Universe”  That’s my reminder.  I have been working really hard painting custom work for others and creating pieces for my show that I’ve neglected what makes me happiest.  Like the picture above, I need some time for myself walking along my own creative beach.  There is such a freedom in just letting the energy from your soul release itself onto whatever canvas you choose.  So I am off to do just that today. 🙂

Walking along Lido Beach with my husband waiting for that last glimmer of light, I see some children playing in the surf.  Two little girls and one boy squealing with joy as the waves splashed at their backs.  Parents were chatting and pointing at the horizon.  This guy was a whir of activity with limbs going every which way and toys thrown about.  He payed no attention to people passing by.  Then for a split second….just a small moment, he stops and looks at the setting sun as if to say……not yet…I am still having fun.   I cannot believe I captured this….

I’m Juicy….

Red and delicious!  Watermelon is a staple for us in Florida this time of year. Summers are hot and humid.  The air is so thick that you can almost swim in it.  We search out the biggest shade trees, the coolest springs and the juiciest watermelon.  As a kid it was one of my most anticipated events.  That first fruit….lip smacking good.  We grew them in our garden and the crops were plentiful.  I like mine ice cold.  The newer varieties do not have seeds, but I will take them either way.  You can spit the seeds or you can chew them up with the fruit.  There is no wrong way to eat them.  The rinds make a delicious refresher if you juice them.

This piece was left behind by someone on a recent beach outing.  It struck me because there was so much left.  I would have never left that much…..
