People often ask me about what pieces of art I have in my own home.  I not only create, but I also collect.  I have some amazing pieces from all over the World.  Paintings and sculpture.  Fine art from artists from Canada….Australia….Japan….France….The United States…and more.  I am highly eclectic in that if I see art that I love and can afford, I just buy it.  I do not worry about whether or not it will match the sofa.  It matches my soul.  The piece above titled “We Make A Family” was painted (by me) around 10 years ago.  It symbolized me, my husband and our daughter and the bond we share.  It hangs over my bed and I sleep under it every night.  Enjoy!

Love Has No Fear

There is no fear in love. Perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment.  Love has to do with acceptance and protection.  This is not something I understood growing up…..I had to learn what healthy love meant. Once I did…..my whole world just opened up.

This piece of art started as an acrylic abstract on Yupo.  Many months later I saw a cliff in the painting and the idea of a tree came to me which then evolved into a symbol for true love.  It is a mixed media piece that combines three elements (background, tree and heart) created separately and then beautifully married on the computer.  The results are very satisfying to me.

What Is Success Anyway?

What makes a person successful in this life?  Is it dying with a big ol’ pile of money?  Is it having the most friends?  Is it the big house and fancy car?  Is it being recognized by others for your achievements?  Is it being pretty and well liked?  Is it bagging a perfect spouse?  Getting that kid into Harvard?

Over the years I have dramatically redefined my perspective on personal success.  Everyone has their own criteria, but for me it has nothing to do with any of the above.  I have come to realize that true success has little to do with worldly achievements and everything to do with the inner peace that comes from not needing them.

Am I a successful artist?  Absolutely.  I am not getting rich off of my creativity, but I am earning a living.  If my spouse died, I could support myself entirely on my income.  I only have to work a few days a week now thanks to years of time investment.  I make money while I sleep and on the days I do not work too.  In my own mind, that is success.  I ignored those that said I couldn’t do it and I worked hard to achieve my goals.

Am I a successful Mom?  You bet.  I turned away from my abusive upbringing and defied the odds.  I did not perpetuate the abuse and I’ve helped my autistic daughter find her own voice.  I have supported her every step of the way and encouraged her to love herself just the way she is.  I did not teach hate or prejudice and as a result she has friends of all races, religions and sexual orientations. She is now enrolled in college and doing all of the things normal folks do.  She didn’t go for an Ivy League school, but one that fit her goals.  She didn’t win a bunch of awards or get a perfect SAT score.  But she is happy.  To me this is one of my greatest achievements and I feel pretty successful as a parent.

Lastly, am I successful overall?  The are so many ways to achieve success: Relationships, Job, Health, Family, Hobbies, Fitness, etc. The simple answer for me is:  Yes.  The detailed answer would be far too long to expect the average blog reader to get through.  I am at a point in my life that I no longer concern myself with how others view me.  I am satisfied and happy with who I am and all I’ve done. In the end, that is all that matters.  So, yes, I am truly successful.

Do you see yourself as a success?

“How Deep Is Your Love”

I love the rich taste of dark bittersweet chocolate on my tongue.
I love the sound of the rain hitting the roof late at night.
I love to smell the ocean at sunrise.
I love to sing in the shower.
I love to create art.
I love my family.
I love life.
I love.
Deep.

“The Roots Of Love Run Deep” is by far one of my most popular paintings.  I am not certain if it is the design…the colors or the title that attracts people from all over the world.  I have shipped prints to Japan….Australia….even small Greek islands.   Love truly is the Universal language…I am glad that I speak it.

How deep is YOUR love?

10 Signs You Are on the Right Path

Do you ever wonder if you are on the “right path” in life.  Is something missing?  Look at the list below and see if you can answer “often” to ALL of them.

1.  I do things I love.

2.  I get excited every morning when I get out of bed.

3.  I feel accomplished when I fall asleep.

4.  I have fun.

5. Things just seem to work out well for me.

6. I feel on top of my game.

7. I get so involved in projects that I lose track of time.

8. I have great ideas.

9. I use my imagination.

10. I feel overwhelmed with gratitude.

I have “often” felt all of the above on a daily basis, but haven’t lately and I find it is time to reevaluate what I am doing with my career, family and health.  What I like to do when I get off track is sit down and write out a list with two columns.  In the first column I write out all of the things I am currently doing that are not fulfilling, frustrating or unhealthy.  In the second column, I write out everything I am doing that is fun, rewarding and healthy. If the left column is considerably longer than the right, I just make a decision to do more on the right side.  It becomes my PRIORITY!  I scratch off things on the left that are not necessary and add a few to the good side (things I would like to do).  This gets me back on my game every time…..

Are you on the right path?

Is Love Worth It?

Is love worth a second chance?  This piece from my popular Labor of Love series is titled “Second Chances”.  These truly are a labor for me, but I love creating them.  I have been in many relationships, both platonic and romantic where giving someone another break was warranted.  Sometimes it was worthwhile as you watched the other person mature as a human being and become a true friend or loyal lover.  Other times it resulted in only more disappointment and heartache.  Real love is indeed hard to find.  In friends or lovers it is elusive as so many people are either shallow, self hating or unwilling to be “real”.  I believe in love and I believe in Second Chances.  Third Chance?…….not likely.  The last of my Labor of Love for now as a BRAND NEW series is coming tomorrow.  I am pumped about it too!
