Today I am taking my daughter and one of her friends shopping. They love to shop for clothes and accessories, but what teen-aged girl doesn’t? Ok me at that age. I am not much of a shopper and never have been. I have been told many times that I shop like a man. You know the stereotypical male shopper right? He knows what he needs, goes in and gets it and leaves. If that is manly shopping then I must agree. I shop like a man.
Now it’s a totally different story if you drop me into an art supply store. I will look at every single item, take off caps, smell things, etc. Papers must be felt with my hands for textural nuances. Price comparisons for canvas must be made. And look at all of those colors of paint! Every brush has to be pressed against my skin to determine it’s value. I can spend hours immersed in art supplies. So in this one way I am truly a “shopaholic”.
But today it is all giggles, lip-gloss and possibly neon tennis shoes. 😉 The only thing that makes the shopping part bearable for me is the fact that these ladies love a good bargain, so we will be hitting consignment shops and Goodwills. You never know what you will find in those places. 🙂

The point of power is always in the present moment. This tenant is something I try to live by. As a self representing artist there really is no other way to live….for my sanity. I cannot focus on sales in the past or sales in the future. I can only look at where I am right now…can I afford my mortgage? Yes Can I afford to eat? Yes Can I create new work with this mind and body? Yes It is much more satisfying to look at all of the “yes” answers than to ruminate on the “nos”. Art is a passion and it cannot be reduced to a marketing and sales pitch. A true artist has an irresistible urge to create. Einstein knew this and so do I. Each day is filled with endless possibilities to which my soul always says yes! Sometimes I paint a beautiful painting, sometimes I design work on my computer and sometimes a day might revolve around a new and exotic recipe I will “tweak”. The business of art can be heartbreaking. It can take you to the highest of highs with that amazing sale or take you to the lowest of lows when you go weeks or for some even months without a sale. I do not have time to be discouraged as I am too busy working on new things. What will it be today?

Cyber Monday has always sounded naughty to me. Like something you just do not talk about in mixed company. 😉 But at least it is something you can do in the privacy of your own home, bathroom and even in your cubicle at work. 🙂 In fact people are cyber mondaying all over the place on smart phones. Someone sitting next to you on the bus may be cybering. And your Mom is probably cybering your Christmas gift as you read this! Ha ha
In all seriousness….today is your last chance to SAVE BIG on my work through Fine Art America. For SAFE cyber mondaying, please enjoy 50% off of my commission on all Fine Art America prints. That’s right…I am willing to reduce my income by half. How many folks would do that? This coupon is for 50% off of “MY” mark up and not the total price. Simply shop and when you check out put in this coupon code to see how much you can save!

I recently read an article that explained that Black Friday was just hype. That the so called “deals” at department stores and bricks and mortar retailers were really just psychological number games. People get caught up in the frenzy of the sale and totally forget to analyze whether they are actually saving anything. To me, even if there were real deals, there is no way I’d risk my life (people get trampled!) or that much of my time and energy just to save a few bucks. Have you seen the parking lots at malls on the day after Thanksgiving? I personally have better things to do with my time. 🙂
Seriously…..stay safe….stay home and support hard working self-representing artisans. Thank you and happy shopping!
