In a calm moment before a storm broke out on Siesta Key Beach, I look up and down the coastline and spot a lone woman walking slowly beside the waves.  Her dress catches my eye immediately.  The bright red in direct contrast to the darkening surroundings.  She carries her matching shoes in one hand.  She appeared completely unconcerned by the ominous clouds forming overhead.  What was she thinking about?  A lost lover…..her career choices….the baby she gave up for adoption….her next novel….I will never know, but I find this image incredibly seductive with so many possibilities…..

F.O.S.S.I.L.S. As Art…

Here is my haul of fossils that I’ve collected walking up and down the beach for the past 4 months!  I also have a glass jar that holds about 3000 shark’s teeth!  Below you will find:  prehistoric shark’s vertebrae, a camel ankle bone, whale ear bone, turtle shell fossils, three toed horse teeth, shark’s teeth of many kinds, puffer fish mouth plates, stingray barbs, shells and misc. bones.  I find these glimpses into the past absolutely fascinating!

A few years ago I had a collector ask me to make a painting for him including some of his fossilized dinosaur bones.  It’s got me thinking about what to do with mine…

Each day I get requests from students all over the World asking for interviews. I regret that I am unable to give each a personal one on one chunk of my time. My art career is a full-time job plus overtime.  I have a special needs family and body.  As a living artist, my life is overflowing with commitments and obligations that do no allow me the luxury.

This blog will answer all questions that I have been asked and will cover what I am willing to share.

Please note that when you ask questions such as:  Where were you born?  What is your birthdate?  What are your sibling’s names?   Etc.  I do not answer questions like this because in today’s world, identity theft is a real concern.  When you contact me and tell me you are a student at xyz, there is simply no way for me to identify if this is true, nor do I have the time to investigate each person who contacts me. This information is simply unavailable.

Sometimes It’s More Than Just A Piece of ART…

“We lost our father in May and my mom has been pretty down so she was extremely excited that you would be able to paint her a piece of art that is so lovely.  She fell in love with your “Summer Queen”.   Her mother was an artist for over 50 years but she got glaucoma and other eye problems and had to stop. Your art has beautiful colors that even she can see with her limited sight.  They are both looking forward to this very much.” T.S.

It’s nowhere near finished yet, but as I work on this piece for a woman that I do not even know, I am so touched by how much joy it will be bringing to her and her mother. Sometimes being an artist involves more than just creating a pretty picture.  I am humbled and honored.

Mmmm….that rich robust smell of the first morning brew.  For many it is not just a breakfast beverage, it truly is “Nectar From Heaven”.  Whether you make your own mud at home or you travel to your local Starbucks for that fresh steamy cup o’ joe, you are in good company.  It is estimated that over 50% of us over the age of 18 drink coffee in the U.S. and 65% of us that do have it in the morning hours.  Studies show it may make you feel happier, lose weight, concentrate, be smarter and make you healthier.  But really whether you like it black, with cream and sugar, a cappuccino or a latte…it’s just tasty!

So many changes are occurring in my life right now.  My body and mind are maturing as expected, but I am referring to other things.  My little girl is moving out onto her college campus this week (a room became available).  I am so proud of her as she has had to deal with Asperger’s, but is spreading her wings beautifully.  My husband is well integrated and delighted with his new position as department chair.  I am anticipating a move to a new city where ART is what is happening.  A move away from Tampa where art is just an afterthought.  Even though I enjoy my online artsy buddies, I look forward to lots of “in person” artist friends.  My artwork is evolving in so many ways and I have new ideas coming which will be unveiled next year.  I am getting recognition from big names like ABC (My artwork will be on Criminal Minds on November 26th!) and Hilton (See 45 of my pieces in a new resort in Islamorada, FL in the Spring!!)   I have finally made a healthy choice within my family relationships.  I have shed my extended dysfunctional family and my scapegoat role within it once and for all.  I can now focus on all that is dear to me. The healthy side of my life.  I feel like it has all come together into one sweet song…
