When I first started creating my Stone Rock’d Art, Salvador Dali was one of my first subjects. His expressive eyes, unique features and quirky personality really worked well with my techniques. One of my favorite famous artists. I have been to see his paintings many times. So I was absolutely delighted when I sold a large print on Fine Art America to someone in Tampa, FL. It made sense as we have the Dali Museum close by in St. Pete.

Just as quickly as my excitement came…it went. The piece was returned and I was disappointed. It is extremely rare for my buyers to return artwork. A few days later I sold another Dali tribute in the LARGEST size and I was thrilled. This person was also in Tampa. All was redeemed.

I make it a habit to thank each of my print buyers on Fine Art America using the comments under each piece of art. It’s all anonymous. I do not know who buys my work typically. Only their city and state. And then I read this under my Dali recently:

“Sharon- We Really love this piece and we’re super excited that the artist lives here in Tampa! What a great surprise! I had no idea, and it makes it all the more special! We are Dali fans and own some of his original work- so thought this piece the perfect compliment! This Stone Rock’d Art style is simply Brilliant!!!!! Maybe we will be lucky enough to meet the artist sometime? With much adoration.”, K & R Feldman

I found out my return wasn’t a return after all.  My buyer loved the piece very much. They just needed a larger size. 🙂

It’s that time of year in Tampa Florida when the weather takes a turn for the worse daily!  The clouds roll in and the thunder shakes the very foundation that you stand on.  Flashes of light fill the skies and Office Depot runs out of surge protectors.  All of our electronics are protected by these little ingenious devices.  However, they are no match for a direct hit by a massive bolt.  We got that yesterday and lost our modem and our phone.  Thankfully our computers and T.V. were spared!  So after a 24 hour wait, I am back online and happy to be working again.

These photos were taken at night during a heat lightning display recently.  It’s better than fireworks!

I absolutely love photography and yesterday I took a walk down to the Hillsborough River in Tampa which is very close to my home.  I have been wanting some nice pictures of crows for awhile now and I got lucky.  The park was filled with them!  I was intending to crop out individual images for use in my collage work, however, this image struck me.  I liked the entire frame.  I enjoy putting together a story using multiple images and layering such as my Eiffel Tower that I listed a few days ago.  One individual recently accused me of stealing images.  Alas, you cannot steal images from the Public Domain…they are there for everyone to use.  Some pictures I just cannot acquire myself such as Hubble Space imagery by NASA and certain landmarks.  Since my imagination seems to have no bounds, I occasionally pull from others who have graciously released their work to the public or images that have never had copyright such as NASA Hubble or images that are vintage and the rights have expired.  I even purchase stock photos from time to time.  Truth be told I far prefer working with my own photographs.  I can do so much more with them as I have the raw files to play with.  You can expect to see some of my crows in space soon. 😉

Quick! Puffy Is Fast!

So I wanted a nice shot of a puffer fish to add to my collection of Tropical sea creature art. How hard can that be? They have puffer fish at The Florida Aquarium. I paid my 22 bucks and headed for the tank. They had 6 beautiful little puffy fish to choose from. Camera at the ready and it was off to the races…literally! These guys are fast flitting about the aquarium at lightening speed. Snap….snap…snap….I took over 100 photos. Surely I had some great shots somehow.  When I got home and downloaded all of the images almost all of them were just blurs. I could make out eyeballs here and there, but not a fin in sight! Until this one…the “magic” shot…be still my beating art.

What’s In A Name?

I’ve been having a lot of fun in the last few days working on my photography.  I have a series of shots of underwater life courtesy of The Florida Aquarium.  I absolutely adore fish and you will find many of them in my paintings and art.  While I never seem to run out of creativity in painting and processing, I do sometimes get stumped for a name.  I’ve been known to use song titles, positive affirmations, popular book titles and movie titles.  But the piece you see here is it “Dive Bar”, “Watering Hole”, “Three’s Company”, “The Meeting”, “The Gathering Place” or something else……What would you name this piece?
