As Summer comes to an end I find myself reflecting on all of the beautiful animals that have touched my life over the years.  I’ve lost birds, pigs, goats, cats, fish and dogs. For me the greatest losses have come with the beautiful Great Danes we have adopted in the last 12 years.  We bring in rescues.  They are an amazing breed with so much love and devotion. Unfortunately, their lifespans are very short averaging 7-8 years. Two left us due to bone cancer, which is common in this large breed, especially the males.  Our time with them was way too short, but the love they gave made it worth it.  Others made it to ripe old ages of up to 11 years.  I still think of all of them every day.  They are never forgotten…

“Mogo” the black one (3+ years) and “Sampson” (7+ years) the fawn, both crossed the rainbow bridge just a year apart.  They were best buddies…

“Bacchus” (6+ years) the larger patched harlequin, “Maile” (9+ years) the smaller patched and “Sophie” another black (11+ years).  I miss them so much…

I get asked that question often.  A lot of people I know love to travel.  My In-Laws just got back from Africa recently.  A good friend had an adventure in Cuba last month. My husband lived in Indonesia for a few years.  And the list goes on.  I like the “idea” of traveling more than the actual experience. I love to “see” the world and wish there was a way to beam myself to various locals just long enough to take it in.  Bypassing the long flights, nasty airports, restrooms….sleeping in strange place.  Odd food.  I am not exactly a homebody though.  I’ve been to a few places as far away as Hawaii which is pretty far considering I live in Florida.  And I have been to many cities all over the United States, but I have never been to another country.  I’ve got plans…..  I know it isn’t too far, but Canada is the first place I want to visit off of U.S. soil.  Where have you been?  And where do you want to go?

Pick your spot on one of my colorful maps….

What do you think of when you think of “apple”?  A computer?  New York City?  Mom?  A teacher?  Someone you love?  We are pretty big on apples here in the United States.  We have Apple computers….an iconic city….a beloved professor…..the apple of our eye….and let’s not forget…..PIE!!….Busy bee here, but today I offer you an apple.  It has gotten cold here in Florida, so I think I will make some hot cider….apple of course!

I’ve got a birthday next month and I will be turning 45.  I’m not old, but I am also no longer young.  I am in the middle….middle aged as they say.  I knew my body would start changing in my 40’s but what I never expected was for my attitudes to change dramatically.  My mental state is undergoing the most transformation. Things that used to drive me crazy, no longer do.  I am calm and at peace in so many situations now that used to get me totally worked up.  I am patient with my daughter.  I appreciate my husband a whole lot more.  I am just more clear on what’s important in life.  I woke up this morning realizing that for 45 years ALL of my needs have always been met.  Sometimes that meant peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and a game of Go Fish for a date. Sometimes it meant The Ritz.  And there were times when I had to wait long periods of time to get some things I needed.  I’ve had to work hard for sure and at times have enjoyed luxuries that as a kid I could only dream of.  And also times where I had to sell everything I could to get groceries.  My life has always given me everything to sustain me….in the good times and the bad.  Right now one of the biggest changes I am feeling is with my art.  I no longer see it as just a means to an end.  Income.  Don’t get me wrong, I like making enough to support myself and help my family, but I am feeling the joy in creating more and the satisfaction of making people happy.  I am here to bring joy to other’s hearts.  As history has proven, my needs will always be met, so I do not have to worry all of the time about making a “sale”.  Here is to change!

I’ve been playing with The Looking Glass again….and oh boy what did I find!  Who are these creatures?  Red guardians over a sacred moth.  My daughter said they looked like weasels.  What do you think?

And then this guy appeared…a beautiful blue eyed fish.  And if you look closely in the center you can also see a wise owl.  Or perhaps you see something entirely different in these pieces….The Looking Glass is for your own imagination too. 🙂
