There is a loving moment in art when the creation is complete.  The artist falls in love with the new work, but loses favor as newer pieces are finished.  But if you are willing to look back, you can be enchanted once again….

It’s “reclaimed” art!

The image you see below was created entirely from previous works! I’ve always been intrigued by the concept of “reclaimed art”, but there are certainly no rules to follow. Who says you have to trudge through garbage dumps or abandoned junk yards?  It doesn’t have to be wood or metal.  One of my favorite things to do is to go exploring through files of past works until a new idea emerges. It’s like a cool puzzle where I am putting together pieces of the past to form the present.  It is an “Absolute Joy”!

It’s a little pathetic that my daughter has put up and decorated the tree herself this year.  She also put up the wreaths, bought poinsettias, made a ginger bread house, baked sugar cookies and put antlers on the dogs.  She is in college mind you, but she did it all alone.  It sounds so sad, but we ALWAYS wait until the 15th to start Christmas! For me the time between Thanksgiving and the 15th is a whirl of painting, packaging and promoting!  This year she was so bursting with festivity that she couldn’t be patient and wait for me and my husband to finish up our BUSY time of the year.  The “ahhhhhhhhh” time has finally come!  So we are joining her in the fun and joy!  I will not be around much until after the New Year.  It’s time for the reward for all of the hard work.  Shopping!  Now that is something she and I will do together. 🙂

The beach days are almost over here in Florida.  It comes with mixed feelings.  There is the joy of cool crisp air and a chance to be outside on the trails.  But the damp cold of the sea is a bit too much.  I will miss it.  Until I return home…

I’ve always had a special place to go to dream.  For most of my life, it’s been a special tree.  Everywhere I’ve lived, I had to find one.  I would either climb up into it’s branches or swing from a rope/tire.  Now, I just sit under it’s cooling shade and let myself go….

Tis the season for sure around here….commission work hanging on every wall….prints being readied for a show.  Tons of emails to answer from eager people wanting the perfect and unique gift for their loved one on Christmas or Hanukkah. It’s like this every single year and I love it!  The addition of the show preparation is new, so I am even busier than usual.  At some point I will need to find time to decorate my own house and get festive with my family…only another 5 weeks or so…..For now I will get my original Twinkle out to start to mentally prepare.  The original is not for sale, but you can have your own decorated tree using the link above!

If you are lucky….you have that one person in your life that has stuck with you through thick and thin.  No sin has been so great that it has not been forgiven.  No hardship so horrible that the burden could not be shared.  That special someone has a voice and heart that beckons a phone call at any hour.  A hand that is always at the ready to steady you or just to say “I am here” and “I will stand by you”.  For many it is Mom, but my Mother abandoned me emotionally and physically from a very early age.  My Dad passed when I was 10 and though I have had friends come and go in my life, for the past nearly 12 years, I have had that special someone.  Thank you Bill….my husband….my love….the one who is always by my side….

And we were side by side when this shot was taken….

Yesterday was one of those amazing Florida days where I wished everyone I knew could be enjoying the fresh air, the sunshine and all of the beauty that was embracing me.  We took our new Samsung Galaxy Note 3 phones out into the wilderness to see what the cameras could do.  I bought the phone for my business and that is what it is used for 90% of the time, but since we had heard so much about the photographic capacity of these new gadgets we gave them a whirl. There was no shortage of subject.  The cameras took some really nice pictures, but no where near that of our DSLR’s.  My favorite is the piece above titled “Solitude” as it expresses how I feel most of the time.  Working from a home studio without coworkers and/or employees leaves me with a lot of alone time.

But I had the most fun playing with the panorama setting.  This piece below turned out really cool and shows a true slice of Florida wilderness where man has intruded by building a bridge between the city world and the great outdoors:

Lastly, there were so many wildflowers blooming it was unreal.  Some of these beauties were taller than I was with large golden and yellow fronds reaching into the sky.  Really it was perfect and it turned out to be a lot less about the camera and a lot more about capturing the beauty…..

When I take photographs, I like to either find a story or have the piece ask a question. Palm trees are everywhere in Florida and there is no great mystery to them.  But this one was all alone and one of the tallest palms I have ever seen.  High into the clouds….what is happening below?  There could be lovers sitting and chatting.  A dog could be asleep.  A bike could be propped up against it’s trunk.  It could be right on the ocean or in a parking lot.  The vibrant blue sky reveals nothing.  What story do you see?
