“Comfort”
Screen print from etched acrylic and ink.
Sharon Cummings
Circa 1992
This piece is definitely a one off by me. It started as an etching on a hard acrylic sheet that was then inked and pressed on a screen press. I remember the acrylic being very difficult to scratch into. I still have the block and the original sketch to this piece. A rare find…

For many years I painted. I painted on canvas and I painted on yupo. That is all I really did. I was a painter. Eventually I got into photography and that was a nice change, but still something was missing. My patterns were stale and I needed to be refreshed! I still paint and take photos, but I am more than a painter and photographer. I am also a designer. I am an artist in every sense of the word. I have started seeing patterns in my photographic and painterly work, so naturally I am putting them together to create new art. Art from art. And what I love the MOST about this creative expression is that it can just continue to GROW infinitely…
Limitless……change……..growth.

While I was working on my Three Birds piece yesterday the wheels started turning and I wondered if this could become a series. Why yes it can! More colorful Spring images on the way. 🙂 I created the hummingbird and hibiscus in this piece well over a year ago. People seem to like it with a white background, but I like the added interest the colors and patterns make.
I’ve got so many images to list right now it is crazy. I still have a dozen pieces from my Transforming Energy series to get online plus another dozen or so maps. And then there are photos! If only one hour of sleep was enough!

Recently I decided to clean out and organize all of my clothing drawers. When my husband came in and saw the pile of lace, satin and silk on the floor he said, “We should put those to more use.” I do not think these images were what he had in mind. 😉 But a light bulb definitely went off in my creative mind.
Everyone has there own idea of what SEXY is. Lingerie is usually used to entice and stimulate the desires of both men and women. Or some people wear these delicate little gems just to feel “pretty”. As an artist, I just see patterns, textures, shadows and lines. So I assembled them into interesting positions and photographed them. I added some filter work to give them a “vintage” feel.
As I said yesterday, ugly things can be made pretty. And pretty things can be made even more beautiful….

Yesterday while out driving around with my Hubby looking for places to take some pictures, we stumbled across a parking lot filled with vintage Porsche’s. What a sight to see! And best of all, the show was over and there were hardly any people about. We had free reign to take as many shots as we pleased without any pesky humans in the way. 🙂
Whenever I see one of these old classics, I think of my crazy uncle. Doesn’t everyone have a “crazy uncle”? Well I do. And if you are reading this, you are mine Uncle Rick. 😉
When I was around 13 years old and staying with my cousin for a week up in the hills of Georgia, my Uncle Rick thought it would be great fun to teach me how to drive. Now that sounds like a pretty normal thing to do right? Normal unless you consider that he put me behind the wheels of a 1954 Porsche Speedster that he had lovingly restored to absolute perfection. It was a beautiful thing.
All went well until he told me to not be afraid to put on the gas. I listened like a good student. It was a wild and crazy ride through winding roads. I had driven a stick shift once before, so hey, I was practically a pro. My memory gets a bit sketchy, but all of a sudden I took a curve way too fast and didn’t correct myself. Uncle Rick grabs the wheel to help me correct and next thing we know we are smashed into an embankment of dirt. That’s right. I wrecked my Uncle’s shiny Porsche. While I am sitting there drenched in sweat and trying to find my lungs again, I hear cackling. Laughter. Crazy insane guffawing. He thought it was an absolute riot! He told me to start it back up and keep going.
Yesterday I was reminded of that time and of him. And the thought occurred to me that maybe there was some wisdom in that wild ride. Perhaps Uncle Rick wasn’t so crazy after all. What he taught me was that “things” were just “things” and that the experience and people were far more important than an expensive car. He also showed me that it was o.k. to let go of fear and just move forward. And lastly, that no matter how scary and crazy life gets….even if you crash sometimes……you can just start it back up and keep going. Broken and bruised……you can still enjoy the ride….

This year is a year of “firsts” for me. My first art show is coming up! But I also received my first royalty check from posterservice.com . They gave me a really nice advance for two of my guitars, so I wasn’t certain that I would ever see more. But people really like my instruments and stores have been buying them……so a surprise check showed up in the mail. 🙂 I am currently working with another company who contacted me after they saw my work on Fine Art America. They are marketing me to some really big names and I am so excited about moving in this direction. All of the really grueling hard work of 10 years is paying off and I couldn’t be happier. I share my triumphs so other artists can be inspired to keep going and realize that they can accomplish anything they set their minds to. And I share so all of my fans can see that their efforts to share me and promote me have been productive. Thank you to all who follow me on my journey. It is your support and encouragement that has kept me positive all of these years. Thank you!

I just returned from a little 3 day getaway to St. Augustine, Florida. The weather was absolutely perfect….crsip….cool and sunny. The kind of weather we Floridians live for. I had been through this historic town one time in my life, but never really explored all of the nooks and crannies. Of course we visited all of the typical suspects….The Castillo De San Marcos National Monument….The Lightner Museum….Flagler College….etc. But what really intrigued me the most were the out of the way places. The smaller details that are so often missed by most tourists. One cool morning we decided to make our way in the opposite direction of the hubbub and we found some really beautiful old homes. This vintage door really grabbed my attention.
We also found this cute little harbor….Camachee Harbor near St. Augustine Beach. There were colorful vessels docked and waiting, but there was also this gorgeous line of white boats. The big crystal clear blue sky made the perfect backdrop.

On Labor Day….I labor. It is a day off for many and a time to sleep in and maybe BBQ. To me there is no better way to celebrate my labors than to create even more! In the United States, Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of their country.
I am doing my part by contributing. Right now I am working on a new series called the “Moda Series”. These are modern pieces with clean lines and simple colors. I enjoy the simplicity of them and the challenge to create balance with so few elements to work with.
Enjoy them here:

Who do you confide in? We all have parts of ourselves that are secret. There may be that rare individual that comes into our lives that we feel comfortable enough with to be vulnerable and we share. But for the most part we carry our experiences and feelings inside. Trust is a big issue for most humans. That is where dogs come in. There is something about their unconditional love that allows us to love freely and without fear. We trust them. This piece is all about that trust. Showing secret places. I Trust You….
