“Little Angels”
Angel Fish Art
Pen and Ink on Illustration Board
Sharon Cummings
1993
I am still digging around through my old portfolio.  I found these little angels swimming in the ocean of boards and papers.  They looked so crisp and clean until I scanned them and saw the close ups.  You can see the irregularities in the amount of ink applied to different areas.  There is also an ink “bleed” on the lines.  I am sure I was quite pleased back then, but with the perfectionism of the computer age, this would not fly now. 😉

“Comfort”
Screen print from etched acrylic and ink.
Sharon Cummings
Circa 1992
This piece is definitely a one off by me. Â It started as an etching on a hard acrylic sheet that was then inked and pressed on a screen press. Â I remember the acrylic being very difficult to scratch into. Â I still have the block and the original sketch to this piece. Â A rare find…

“Lap Of Luxury”
Prismacolor Pencils/Pantone Markers
Sharon Bratcher Cummings
1993
The first picture is a crop and modified version of the second which I decided to list as a print that can be made as large as 60 inches long!
The full image was created by me in 1993 while I was in college working on my art degree. Â I used colored pencils and markers to get the textures and colors that you see. Â My Mom actually owns the original, so I had to scan my copy.

As promised, I am sharing more of my work from my art school days.  I did not do much painting back then.  My degree slants toward the commercial side, so I used pencils, pens, and markers as my primary mediums.  One of the good things about schooling is that often you are challenged to try techniques that you would not have chosen otherwise.  My “Proud Lion” above is creating using what is called “stippling” and is referred to as pointillism in art terminology.
This was created nearly 25 years ago. Â There was no computer help. Â The entire piece was done by hand using an ink pen on white cardboard. Â Many countless dots over and over again (including what looks like solid black) make up his shapes and shadows. Â I had to “draw” him in my mind and couldn’t rely on printing out something I could dot over. Â Nope. Â It’s all handmade. Â In the close up, you can see the irregularities in the dots which is a dead giveaway that no computer was involved.
I am not knocking computer work.  I use it all of the time now!  I am simply remembering the cramped hands and cross eyes of yesteryear. 😉  I also appreciate the fact that nowadays you can make mistakes and quickly fix them.  Back then there were a lot of “do overs”.
Times have changed, but true art remains……timeless.
More to come from my old portfolio soon!

For many years I painted.  I painted on canvas and I painted on yupo.  That is all I really did.  I was a painter. Eventually I got into photography and that was a nice change, but still something was missing.  My patterns were stale and I needed to be refreshed!  I still paint and take photos, but I am more than a painter and photographer. I am also a designer.  I am an artist in every sense of the word.  I have started seeing patterns in my photographic and painterly work, so naturally I am putting them together to create new art.  Art from art.  And what I love the MOST about this creative expression is that it can just continue to GROW infinitely…
Limitless……change……..growth.
